  • Hey there! I was brought to this site by a recent acquisition. I was lucky enough to stumble upon a few original movie poster art paintings. I've done as much research as I can, and was able to pinpoint the films, who painted them, and whether they were final production pieces or just drafts. I've been treasure hunting for years, but I've never had the good fortune to find something like this. I've had decent luck with movie posters in general, as I am currently sitting on around 11 Star Wars: Return of the Jedi Style A posters from 1983, and an original Back to the Future poster. In any case, I posted in the recent acquisition thread and was hoping to get a little feedback on the original pieces. I'm unsure if I should bother cleaning them, how best to frame, or anything else I might need to know about preservation.

Apparently...but the initiation is a little OTT
  • Hello, fellow poster lovers! I am a collector of ancient Greek coins, but just became interested in movie paper about a year ago. My main interest is sex symbols, femme fatales, and vamps, generally from the silent era (I have 325 silent films on DVD) through the 1960s.

I have bought from Heritage, but recently discovered eMoviePoster.com and am now participating in their auctions, too. I like to frame and display my items, so am collecting mostly lobby cards with a few half sheets for good measure (pun intended!).

Two items I am particularly pleased to own are lobby cards of Carmel Myers in Cheated Love (1921) and Diana Dors in Blonde Sinner (1956), near mint, which will arrive from Heritage in a few days.

  • Welcome!!!
  • Welcome and I hope you share some pics when they arrive!
  • Wrong group?
  • No, cookies are good.
  • Oh Silent Movies...Welcome.  Can't wait to see what treasures you might have!
  • Welcome A-nut! :plus_one:

Hey it's Mel. I'm coming back from a three year break from movie poster collecting. I consigned about 95% of my posters to EMP back in 2015 so I'mdown to 20 or so posters but I'm planning to build up to 100 or so posters. I'm now living in Charlotte NC and only have space for fifteen frames so my capacity is limited. My prize posters are these two:

I've resurrected my newbie collector website at http://moviepostercollectors.guide/. It's still a work in progress.

Finally, I'm hoping to avoid all the drama and conflict from the past. Bygones!

  • Hey Mel,

Welcome. I saw your site was up from a FB post. Both great posters, love the Sullivan's Travels-movie was good!

  • Whaaaaaaaa  :o
  • Welcome back from the dead!  We need an infusion of passion - super timely...
  • Welcome.Mel! I thought you were a myth..but you are man!
  • Welcome back Mel!

Those two prize posters are sensational.

  • Welcome Back Mel, thought you couldn't stay away for ever...
  • Welcome back. Sullivan's Travels is a wonderful film and poster!!
  • It will be fascinating to see what you now go after. I will be surprised if you go after many (any?) of the items you once had. Most collectors tastes change (mature?) over time, and I can't guess in what direction yours will go in, but I won't be at all surprised if you go for quality over quantity.

    And welcome back!

  • Oh wow.  Welcome back!  Glad/Hope all is all going well for you.  Wasn't sure the state of things after Charlie's post, but to good to see all travelling in the right direction.
