A clue is that this actress appears in an extended version of the below image that includes a favourite  actor of yours Ves.

  •  A12   A14  A15

Clues for all the three remaining three unanswered images.

A12  Multi talented actress who was in a series of films featuring school children,

A13  British actress who was very popular during the 1930's.

A14 This actress is well remembered for her role in one of the best loved films of all time.

    A15  Billie Burke

  • I'll shut up now...
  • A12 Joyce Grenfell in The Million Pound Note...wee bit of searching but found it!

Correct. The Million Pound Note was a 1954  release. I knew you would figure this one out Ves.

Regarding an earlier clue, Joyce Grenfell appeared in a long running series of British films based on the works of cartoonist Ronald Searle set in St. Trinian's school.

    A15  Billie Burke

    Correct also. Billie Burke in Let'e Get A Divorce ( 1918 )

Billie Burke, seen here with Judy Garland as Dorothy, memorably  playing Glinda, the good witch of the north in The Wizard Of Oz ( 1939 ).
  • Yeah needed your clue to get the Billie Burke one...the image looked familiar but I couldn't place it until the clue.
  •  An additional image hopefully will assist one in working out the answer for A14.

  • Was she associated with a particular studio? (I'm trying hard not to cheat...)
  • Was she associated with a particular studio? (I'm trying hard not to cheat...)
This actress was English born and very popular during the 1930's when she  starred in many British musical films..
  • Jessie Matthews
  • Jessie Matthews
Yes it is. Thanks for participating in this quiz Ves, and it  is very much appreciated.

First A Girl ( 1935 ) and Sailing Along ( 1938 )  were two of her popular films.

  •  A16  A17
     A18  A19

An interesting selection of four actresses to test your knowledge and skills. Two of the images are from classic films.
  • I'm sitting out for a while and give others a go.  A17...She is wonderful.   One of my all time favourite films!
  • No one?
    A17 Katie Johnson
  • No one?
    A17 Katie Johnson
Correct.  Thanks Ves. The delightful Katie Johnson as she appeared in The Ladykillers from 1955.

Apart from Ves participating in this quiz recently, interest from others in recent times has waned, so I am thinking that in the future of reducing my quiz involvement here on the forum.

In the meantime  though it would appear that a few clues  wouldn't go astray for the three remaining unanswered images..

A16. A big time switcheroo takes place in this film from the 1980's.

A18. A famous child star in the 1940's,

A19.  A little known  actress appearing in a scene from a classic film from the 1960's that has a very long title.
  • I recognise A16 from a very popular relatively recent TV show.  Will dig up her name...
  • A16 Sonja Braga in Moon over Parador (1988)

    I'm back 😀
  • A19 is Tracy Reed in Dr Strangelove... (1964)  hint helped

Correct and great to see you back on board as your contributions were missed.

Appearing above in a scene from Moon Over Parador with Sammy Davis Jr.

Sonja Braga is best known for her role in Kiss of The Spider Woman ( 1985 ). Image above from Gabriela a 1983 film from Brazil.

Correct as well. Happy to assist with the clues.

Appearing above with George C. Scott in a scene from, and giving it the full title, Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb.

Not a great title for cinema marques, unless you had space available as the below cinema would have had, in the 1940's, and if it was still operating in 1964, and they wanted to use the full title.

On checking a little later on I found that the cinema certainly  appears to be the Oriental Theatre in Milwaukee, Winconsin in the U.S.A.,  and is still operating today, as the image would indicate below .

A nice image of Tracy Reed and then following then seen appearing with Peter Sellers and  George Sanders in A Shot In The Dark ( 1964 ).
  • I've been to the Oriental many times over the years.  First time was in the 60s.
These days it shows a lot of limited distribution "art" films.  One of the last remaining movie palaces, and the best in the area

Correction . The spelling of Sonia Braga, the answer for A16 was incorrectly credited with her christian name being shown as being Sonja and not as Sonia the correct spelling.

Few movie palaces still remain in Australia. There are two magnificent  theatres in Sydney that are now live theatre venues

  • A18.  A famous child star in the 1940's, An additional clue is that in the film the above image comes from, it starred a legendary Italian actress

  • While I hopefully await an answer for A18, two more actresses to have you think about.

I believe one will be easy to identify, but the other one most likely will be difficult to answer. Somewhere in my last sentence lies within a word another word which is an obscure clue.

     A20  A21
  • I watch Clint's movies too much!
  • edited August 2022
Looks like Ves has a21, so a20 is Anita Corsaut in The Blob.
  • BTW, a18 is Margaret  OBrian in Heller in Pink Tights.
I did image search here as I never would have guessed that beauty was the same freckled kid in Meet Me in St Louis

A20 is correct and good work, as I had thought that this one may have proved to be difficult. . Aneta Corsaut was billed in The Blob as being Aneta Corseaut

Aneta with Steve McQueen, who was credited as being Steven  in The Blob ( 1958 ), and Aneta seen above with Andy Griffith in  The Andy Griffith Show TV series ( 1960 -1968 ). In this series  which she played schoolteacher Helen Crump, she appeared in  in 66 episodes  between 1963 -1968.

I believe Ves is hoping someone else will answer A21, but if this doesn't happen I am sure she will provide us with the answer later on.

    A18

A18 is certainly proving difficult in finding an answer for. I had thought that this actress would be easy enough to work out  A final clue is that she was very popular in the 1940's when she was under contract at MGM.
