The crap I find in old rolls of paper...

  • Ya'll think this is original? It's rolled but it otherwise appears original.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/282486918645

  • Hmmm.
Never seen one of these Barbarella one-sheets rolled and the pics are so fuzzy.
Seller doesn't seem to know movie posters with this info in ad: "NUMBER 68/274 THAT MEANS THIS IS NUMBER 68 OUT OF 274 "
We all know that this is an NSS number meaning Barbarella was the 274th film that NSS provided paper for in 1968.
No size of poster is given (it should be 27x41) and seller has no other posters for sale.

All signs would lead me to STAY AWAY.

  • looked over the description Mel.  The guy doesn't know what the NSS number means.  He thinks it is a sequence number in a limited release.

Given that, plus the fact that it is only shown framed makes me willing to bet that the lack of folds is because he had it dry mounted.  That's enough for me to take a pass on it.
  • Framed by Sue of Hollywood Poster Frames - doubt she would dry mount an original. So first find out if it is dry mounted, it could be on linen?
  • OK, I missed Sue's sticker on the back.  Sue wouldn't dry mount, unless the customer requested it.  But this guy won't know what dry mounting is.  He is likely to ship with frame, and that will depend on how long ago it was framed.

Sue used glass until the late 90s.  Her recent frames also have the third attachment point for the wire, at least the ones I bought.  Not sure I'd trust the UPS store to pack a frame with glass properly.  OTOH, the frame itself is worth a good chunk of the asking price.

Probably be best to be bought locally.  Get one of the west coast members to go take a look.

    Display only...
  • Anyone else having trouble with the site loading very slowly?
  • No problems with the site for me. And welcome to the site Gene!... ;)
  • I dropped him a note and quite politely (because it is an honest mistake) told him the NSS number did not mean limited edition, suggested he look up NSS numbers - he thanked me.

The auction ended a little time after that - can't say it was the result of what I informed him but it was back up again without the 'limited edition' comment. Unfortunately he measured it as 70" x 27". So I dropped him another note and asked

    Q: 70"?
    A: HELLO I MADE A MISTAKE ITS 40 LONG X 27 WIDE INCHES THANKS

    And there's your answer.

So jump right in, bidding starts at USD$170...
  • Have to ask a question but dont know where to ask.

Im going paperless. Up to now ive kept a record of my posters (including invoices, year, price, etc) in a file. But it takes too much space. And it now looks messy.

I need a good database, and I think I have found one app that can sort it out. But I thought I should ask around:  So where and how are you filing all the info about your posters online?  Photos, invoices, details about restorers, etc

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you!
  • I use excel.  It can do all you ask, doesn't require fancy setup, and came with the computer.

    Tough part was linking photos.
  • Thanks Jay. I find it rather impossible to link the photos. But i will keep that in mind. Cos you are right. Need to keep it simple.
  • I also like to upload photos to forums.  Fortunately my ISP gives me a generous amount of ftp space, so these days, I place them there in a website, and then link the url.  It is still the most painful part of the process and the photo is a click away instead of being directly visible in the spreadsheet.
  • Excel will allow you to link to your storage like Photobucket.
  • Thanks Guys. I will try excel. I have to admit that have tried several apps but all are a pain in the rear.
  • Congrats Aussies for this awesomeness!

  • ^^ Agreed- what he says
  • Barbarella is 27x40?
    Should be 27x41...

  • I saw that Ted.  Figured it was a sign to stay away.

I saw something on Heritage last night.  They had a daybill of Going My Way.  The issue was that is shows Bing Crosby wearing a coat and tie, but his character is a priest.  I think he wore a collar and robe throughout.
  • Email arrived from Ntsiki Magwaza <Ntsiki.Magwaza@durban.gov.za> , nothing in the subject, but within was a simple message

    Seems legit.
  • I feel left out.  Never gotten one.  Guess the word is out that I'm not trustworthy...

Play this at full screen with sound on as you can just hear and then see the fish before it appears.

I wrote back and told them not to trust me, likely I'd spend it all on wine, fast cars and somewhere to house my vintage movie poster collection which would grow exponentially on receipt of the funds. I am hoping they ignore my vices and offer me the money.
