Holy crap been removing a couple of snipes today with undu guess it similar to besstine. The first one came off no worrys but the second on a quad from the 1990s is a bitch...two hours and im a quarter way through, will have to do it another time. Despite me applying the solution where i removed the snipe it is still sticky??? Unfortunately also a shadow on the snipe..should have left it alone...helppp!
  •  Yikes! Bestine no fun after 60+ mins. I've never removed a snipe-just tape, but I think I read where most are water-based, and can be removed with a steamer? during a wash?

I'm sure Charlie can better address...

By "shadow" do you mean after the snipe was removed there was toning to the paper surrounding the snipe, and the color of the paper was lighter under the snipe?

Good luck with the rest of the snipe...

Wish i got higher given the frustration!
  • Like Mark said, on old posters snipes are very often water based... Only on more modern posters is where I've seen snipes as say a sticker and needing bestine...
  • Post an image... Also once you let it dry did the stickiness go away?
  • Thanks guys. No it was still sticky. I will definitely poster an image but may not be until next week as i packed it away in frustration!!

If it is water based i was thinking if i dip a cotton bud in hot water that might remove the stickiness given its may be water based.

Thats right Mark the shadow is toning. No what i expected from a 1990s poster.
  • Also just got back from force awakens,  Im in awe, and left the theatre extremely satisfied... action, romance... a wondeful tribute to the original trilogy. Well done JJ
  • Sven-frustrating I bet! Tape never fun, sounds like with a modern poster- and still sticky-it might not be water based. Your plan of a small amount on a cotton ball should be a good test, but not sure how the wet paper will react when it dries if not on canvas. Wrinkles? Warping? I've never gotten anything past 1976 wet...

Glad to hear the new SW movie is up to standards, and they are giving some kudos to the originals (which are my favorites)! I likely wont see it till after the New Year and crowds die down.

Family tonight is watching Return/Jedi tonight. Gearing up!

  • Where's the before, during and after photos Sven?!
  • I went to start a thread on Gregor Fiskens, and found Charlie started one back in April '14. If you all haven't seen his site, amazing! :open_mouth:

  • They are OK for guesstimates, but for accurate stuff, it's the old way...
