Hello!  I ran across this forum while trying to find some information on conservation/restoration of some vintage posters I've acquired over the years that I would like to display.  They run across several genres, from movies to 1950s/60s travel posters to music (especially a huge 1990-ish Grateful Dead tour poster from the UK).  Some of them just have the usual issues to deal with, such as folds on the movie posters, several have rather minor tears, and others are basically in pieces/crumbling.  The Grateful Dead poster, in particular, has deep tears, adhesive residue soaked into the paper from Scotch-type tape that was applied to hold the pieces together, pinholes, etc.  A few of the travel posters have small missing bits.

Here are a couple of them:

  • Welcome Sam, you've come to the right place.

So good to have you here!!
  • :) Welcome aboard Matt .
  • Hey everyone. My name is Chuck. I'm somewhat new to movie memorabilia collecting. I'm interested in collecting pressbooks, press kits, lobby cards and heralds. At the moment I've just focused on collecting items for the movies I love (The Goonies, Back to the Future, The Omega Man, etc). As an example I have the Goonies press kit with the WB envelope it came in, Japanese and US pressbook and lobby cards. I'd prefer collecting every piece of paper material for each movie I love than buying a ton of stuff I've never watched. Lately I've been interested and intrigued in buying anything related to the NSS. Not posters but NSS ads, marketing material that type of stuff. I recently acquired a large box of paperwork/epherma from the old Concord Theatre in New Hampshire. It contains invoice, contracts, letters and other studio related paperwork sent to the theatre. I'll probably be selling some of it in the near future for those interested. I haven't really gotten into buying movie posters yet but if I did I would say my first purchase would be the Goonies and Back to the Future. I look forward to getting to know everyone. And hey, if anyone is feeling generous and has some old NSS material or things they'd like to get rid of for nothing let me know ;)

    Chuck
  • Sounds like you are well and truly hooked.

    Welcome Chunk!

  • Thanks Matt! Anyone on the boards from Pennsylvania?

Welcome aboard, we're hard to find sometimes, we are that who you do not speak of elsewhere
  • How do I add photos to a new post? All I see is an image URL but I can't get that to load an image from Google photos.
  • You'll need a hosting website like photobucket imageshack etc.

Then just copy your photo from that site and paste in the leave a comment box.

    More info here.

Google photos appear to be an issue to hotlink from (with this forum's software), I think Mark @Eisenhower had the same issues. As Matt said, Photobucket or Imageshack work, I think even Dropbox does too.

Edit: Dropbox doesn't work (not unless you want everyone to have access to that folder), apparently Google Photos stopped letting hosted images be hotlinked too (hence the issue).

However there  is a work around if you have Dropbox (it does NOT allow access to the folder this way), simply click and hold the image and then drag it into the comment box - however I'd recommend resizing your images to something small (ideal is 800px wide x the proportional height).

FYI: This drag and drop works off most websites to this forum, Heritage's images can be a little more harder (to drag and drop from), they don't let/like their images to be hotlinked, however I have found a slight variation/work round along the lines of drag and drop.

Here's an example of a drag n drop from Dropbox - this was unedited for size, read above re size (it's not a requirement, it is just easier if the whole image can be seen on most screens without scrolling everywhere to take it in)

    Bout' time!  Stick around....
  • Welcome Chuck, nice to see another pressbook collector on board. This is a great forum I plan on being more active now that I have more time but I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I have.
  • Hi, my name is Ted.
I'm new to this hobby -- only been collecting since 1966 -- and am still looking for a 1931 Frankenstein six-sheet to hang in the guest room.
    Who's got one?

  • Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Ted is here!!  :)
  • Hi Rosa!
I figured what better place to celebrate 50 years in this hobby than here -- the place for everything vintage (including me).
    ;)
  • Welcome Ted to this vintage getaway that one can escape to for a while.
