Our records on the British NSS has some holes in it. Let me give you what we have pieced together so far..
We knew the U.S. offices were expanding and by 1930 had 3 major offices in the U.S. but we don’t have exactly when they opened offices in the UK. Our best guess is mid to late 1920s. We do have that they were still at the 25 Denmark St. location in the early 1930s but we have nothing mid to late 1930s. At the beginning of the war in 1941, the NSS offices were bombed and they moved to Wardour St. but I’m not sure if they were still at the Denmark St offices when that happened.
Now looking at Paul Kimberley. He had opened the British
Thanhouser distribution in 1913 called Imperial Film. They moved twice and
finally shut down the end of 1921. He then disappears in our records until he
is with NSS in the late 1920s. He is still there in the early 30s but in 1940
he becomes general manager of BFI until 1943 when he returns to NSS until
1945.
The can doesn’t have any specific markings except the address.. so it has to be late 20s to 30s.
