  • oh ffs, makes ya sick...
  • I think for once Royal Mail cannot be blamed for that one...
  • Wow what an amazing job Diane and her team have done, and after reading through some previous threads about restorers, i'm unsure who to use or trust!
  • Dario, Studio C, or Poster Mountain, either of these and you'll be fine..
  • So, just got these two back from Studio C, another first rate job...

  • Beautiful Paul! Good to know Dianne and team are still on top of the game
  • Scrooge is Superb!  SUPERB!
  • Yep I agree - glad they arrived back to you safe and sound - congrats Paul!
  • First rate alright. They look fantastic!

If sharing an image from an internet page somewhere:

    Right click 'copy image'
    Right click here 'paste'

It's the easiest way to add an image in a post in any forum (you can even do it on EMP and HA)

Unless you are trying to add from Photobucket who do not approve of sharing.
  • Look great Paul! Were they in good shape prior? Any before photos?
  • It was a bit of a chew with customs Chris, so a bit worrying with all that has gone on.. Will dig out the before pics when I get Home..

  • Looking great Paul, they did a great job on my Star Wars 3 Sheet!

Do you have a pic Wil?

    Here's the before on Scrooge...

  • And the Carry on Spying.. difficult to see how bad the discolouring was, but you'll get the idea..

No damage at all Paul, just the fold lines and a stamp bleed through in the credit area to correct. It was painted over well (ignore the dark patch on the final image, it's a trick of the light and looks fine viewed square on).

  • Scrooge---Very nice restoration! Certainly top quality work!

Carry In Spying---looks like the discoloring was seen most on the borders? Looks nice as well!
  • Thanks Wil, I'll bet that looks impressive on the wall.
  • @Collectahollic

Great looking Star Wars 3-Sheet! Should look impressive when framed and up! As for that stamp showing through, I like when thy show in non-artwork areas. Provides that "historical" authenticity!

When they said they could sort the bleed through I assumed they'd lightly bleach it as other restorers had done in the past. Bit of a suprise to see it painted over and in hindsight if I'd know this, I would have said leave it as is.

    @collectahollic,
My instinct says, as an eager "restorer" says cover up, but as Dario & others (Ves) have kinda convinced me to leave "as is". Studio C of course does great work!

Its a great piece and it will, of course appreciate.... :)

  • @Eisenhower

Once I get Ivanhoe back, my framers will start work on the one above. May hold off 3 sheets for a little while and focus on the UK OS's and Quads I'm after. Firstly Ice Cold in Alex OS. The Quad failed to sell at the Propstore auction yesterday, so hopefully be relisted when they repeat the auction in December.

Nice. Ive no Quads in my collection, which is minimal at this stage, finding an older 50s/60s I really want & can afford isn't that easy.  I was wondering if you'd gotten that Ice Cold Quad.  It's has great artwork & colors; similar to a Longest Day or Bridge/Kwai.  Good luck when it comes back up.

Painting over things is the one thing on restoration I really don't like...this was the reason I sold on some stuff I had done in the early days.
I couldn't bare to look at it, it was just so obvious - maybe it was just a crappy job.

Less is more people...less is more!
  • Im with you girlfriend on that!!! Sold off all my fully airbrushed borders posters... im a free man now!!!!!!
  • I'll let this one slide as it's well away from the artwork. I suppose bleaching would have lightened the text, which is why they went for a cover up.

Once up, the focus should be on Leia's legs  =)

Do you mean the text/credits printed on the poster? Or the NSS text stamp?

Bleaching shouldn't really reduce the printing of the text/credits; as long as the bleaching isn't too strong or left on too long, they could bleach just the NSS area and no where else. ....I'm guessing it's easier to airbrush over.

....end of day, who cares, it's an awesome poster!

    Definately this I think...

Yes it is (for a Star Wars poster :) )

Ha! I shall not take the bait!  B)

The front credits mate. My only experience with backers bleaching resulted in the lightening of the front print. So assumed to remove the risk of that they (as you say) went for the quick airbrush option.
