i played local AFL for many years, great game! cI'm still playing volleyball, though my 56-year-old body is starting to tell me it's almost time to quit
Hi all, joined to get some info on some posters I have had hanging on the wall for 30 years, so I was wondering how to tell if it is an 'original' and links to how I should go about looking after them as they seem to have some discolouration around the edges of what are really nice posters. I am in regional West Australia. I am sure that there is all the info I need in these forums but a few pointers would be really appreciated. Followed the drop box instructions on this site hope it worked! Thanks for your indulgence. Those daybills look nice! Tarantula and Mantis appear to have toning/foxing & some dirt in the borders. A nice wash & bleaching would likely take care of them.
Thanks Eisenhower. Had a google of the process and as this is way out of my field it appears that I should get it done buy someone with a clue. These are worth preserving for me simply because I like them, not a collector but I wouldn't want them to deteriorate if they are of cultural or monetary value - are they? Pretty confused by the range of prices from 3K to 12 bucks!? I paid 12 bucks. at a second hand store 30 years ago. I might have a look in Perth, closest city, to get a quote on getting them cleaned up and linen backed which seems to be the way to go. Remember buying the Tarantula one as I liked the reference in the Rocky Horror Picture Show theme song! Cheers.
Hi CSM, they are behind glass and sandwiched directly on the wood backing, not glued down. Haven't taken them out since I got them framed but thinking it is time to get something done.
Hi everyone! I've joined to see if I can track down an original UK quad for The Lobster (2015) as a replacement for my girlfriend's one that was thrown out. I've posted in the wanted to buy section, any help would be much appreciated. Willing to pay good money! David
I found this wonderful site while trying to figure out a way to take out the wrinkles in my movie poster. Turned out it's been framed wrong and I'm also not supposed to use glass. It's my first original movie poster to collect, The Dark Crystal, so I'm worried it's ruined. As my user name suggests....I freaking love monster movies!
It looks like I'll have to do more in the way of finding out where I can go to get it repaired as I have no idea what the cost of flattening wrinkles would be. Then I'll have to figure out how to actually frame it right this time. At least it's not like I've ruined 20 posters but it really worries me this one may be done for.
Glad you found the site! Think we might have a poster collector or two that likes monster paper as well. As for your Dark Crystal, post some pictures and maybe we can offer a few bits of advice!
Hi guys, I just checked my account, and it looks like I joined VMPF in May of 2017, but this is my first post. I'm another Matt, but since VMPF already has at least one other very active one, I'll continue to fly under the rockabilly777 banner, which I have for many moons now. Some of you may know me from lots o' years at Ari and Phil's NSFGE, and before that, Jon Warren's Movie Poster Talk. I've been into posters since I was a wee lad, but have been collecting movie posters for about 30-ish years now. Currently age 51 (52 this fall - gasp!) and living in east Tennessee. I'm never sure about how much personal info to include with introductions (boring you to tears never makes for a good first impression), so I'll just leave it there for now. Part of the reason for my long term lurking is the photobucket meltdown, and even as of this writing, I'm not sure how I'll post pics on the forum. I still have a PB account, but it's a hot mess to try and use. Popup ads everywhere, slow as molasses, not accepting all photo file types, etc, etc, etc. I don't use Facebook or other social media, so I can't link photos from those. Shawn (Monster-A-Go-Go) suggested using a blog such as blogger and linking from there, but I'm not sure I'm interesting enough to be a blogger. Another VMPF feature I wasn't quite tech savvy enough to figure out is pinning myself on the google map. I more or less figured out how to type in my postal code, but couldn't figure out how to edit/change the postal code numbers on the list to my username, so for now I just deleted it and let it be. Having said all that, I'm looking forward to sharing pics of poster purchases, my amateur matting and framing exploits and other poster nerd kinda stuff.
Welcome Rockabilly! Looking forward to seeing your post your purchases!
As for posting pictures or images, you can sign up for a free WordPress.com blog account, and link your images from there. It's worked for me, for the past year and a half with no issues. I also lost so many images when Photobucket seized everyone's accounts hostage for big $!
Thanks for the kind welcome, Mark! I bit the bullet and created a wordpress account, so if I can figure it out, the world might have another movie poster blog. I uploaded as many images as I had on my computer, so I could at least post recent acquisitions here. The first pic I published on the blog turned out a tad large, so I hope that doesn't pose a problem here. As long as I've been movie poster forum-ing, I've never been particularly savvy about resizing photos for forum use, so we'll see how this goes. I'll try posting a pic with this post.
Allrighty, it looks like it worked, but I'm not exactly sure how. I copied the image url from wordpress and pasted it in the drop-down image box here, but it's not immediately apparent what I pressed to get it to appear. Good times. At any rate, here I am, and here's a poster! (which seems to have shown up gigantic here as well)
Welcome Matt (but you'll always be Rock to me...)! Since NS4 is pretty much in peaceful retirement these days glad to see more and more of the crew finding this place
Thanks, guys. I’ve been forum dormant for a while, so getting back in the swing of even marginally organizing things may take a bit. There’s never been any real organization to my collection, I’ve always just kept pics on the desktop computer and photobucket, but my last desktop died and most of my old poster pics are still on PB. I’ll have to take the time and rescue them, and like Ves, just terminate the account. HOWEVER, I now have an “office†(spare room in the house that’s now a poster lair), and I recently scored 2 large blueprint/map files/cabinets, so things are gelling in that respect. I’ll snap some pics of the room and post ‘em when I can, but therein lies another tech debacle. I usually take pics with my iPhone (i’m not much of an Apple fan), but it has proven a gigantic pain to transfer photos from that to the pc. Ugh. Anyhow, thanks again for the welcome, and for your collective patience while I figure this stuff out.
easiest way I found with the phone is to just email them to yourself.

I can't speak for an Android phone, but with my iphone, i simply upload the images to my free wordpress account. It's a most three simple steps.
From my old Photobucket account, i have no option than to send those by text message to my phone, then i save the image, and then upload to my wordpress acct. A longer process, but necessary if i'm going to save those images.
