  • After months of not doing so, I watched a movie in a theater again. Aronofsky's mother!. Awesome movie. To make things better, I got a poster (thanks theater guys!) And to make things even better, the people marketing it down here didn't use the dull design with Lawrence/Bardem faces.

  • Shit, can't post a pic

  • Congrats you!  That is the one everyone wants!
  • It does look amazing!!
  • There is a bardem version too, but not sure if anywhere printed them....
  • Yeah, seen them both online, but I doubt the Bardem design was used for an actual poster here.
  • Well shit... Now I have to find one.
  • Just received this half sheet for On The Town:

It is only in 'good' condition.  A bit of cleanup, but the big deal is a number of fairly large tears that have been repaired on the back with cellophane tape, now discolored.  Note this is style A, and I can't find any record of that style being sold at either emovieposter or Heritage.  I generally don't back posters, but I am thinking of making an exception here.

I am open to suggestions, and am leaning toward paperbacking.  Any suggestions on someone that can handle paperbacking and general cleanup on a half sheet?  I was thinking Dario, but his website only discusses linen.  I have a linen half sheet of Lady and the Tramp, and it feels too massive.  Anyone want to chime in?

Went to a local swap meet today, 600 or so stalls pretty much solely devoted to Model T fords, hot rods & old fords/holdens, however there were a handful of lobby cards kicking around which I picked up (not major titles, but movies I enjoyed - Glory, Robocop and Back to the Future etc.), the only poster I could find was this Abbott & Costello in the Foreign Legion beauty, sadly glued to board so decided to pass.

  • Wise move as Patricia Medina's head is a little too large compared to the rest of her body.

Agree, the insert wasn't much better.

True, but Patricia Medina's face actually looks like what it should look like on the insert poster, unlike the daybill image. Congratulation on the great and rare Elvis Jailhouse Rock Australian one sheet.
  • Congratulations Rick.  Always nice to cross another one off.
  • Nice Rick!

    Yes, paperback it.
  • Definitely paperback Jay...I personally don't like the look or feel of the card stock posters like half sheets, inserts and 30x40 etc on linen.  Too chunky or massive as you say.

I would think Dario should be able to paperback for you...drop him a note.

    GOOD LUCK!

  • Good looking poster Rick.
  • Beautiful  and rare Rick, congrats
  • Crikey, that's a beauty Rick!
  • Fantastic Jailhouse Rock, Rick! Beautiful piece.

I've linen backed 3 HS's and while they do "feel" thicker, they look just as nice and frame just as well up on the wall. I will paperback one soon; the WC & LC I've paperbacked seem good on Masa. I need to get some Mulberry which Charlie recommends as a backing support material. Good luck whichever way you go, it's a fun poster! So much good stuff going on!
  • Mark said'' So much good stuff going on!''.  That's because they're painting the Town with Joy. Which one's Joy ?
  • Something I picked up as project. American International seemed to produce a lot of rebellious youth flicks in the 60's. Missing a few pieces of paper but it should be a fun to restore.

  • Nice Mark! Getting game with the restoration and i like it!
  • Nice Young Racers.  I have a full set of the LCs and have seen the film.  Typical AIP stuff, but good racing images of 60s formula cars.

Well, Dario says he doesn't do paperbacking anymore as he finds the results flimsy and frail.  Something I need to consider, I guess.  I either need to choose another restorer and/or settle for linen.  Mark kind of hinted at the same thing in his response.
