  • Very nice - something about that Mysterious Pilot that is very cool.

I see you own the common or garden variety of The Spider's Web, You should know a whole bunch of the the much rarer ones surfaced a few years ago...

  • Last batch for a while  =)

  • Beautiful posters!

Ha, very nice David, unfortunately I got one with the remnants of a ratings snipe, funny though as there was nothing to cover, so a stamp would have sufficed!
  • The interesting thing about The Spider's Web is although it was a children's serial the film was classified Suitable Only For Adults.
  • found 5 more with the infamous hook mark.

  • A crying shame that Mysterious Pilot was so damaged, Capt Frank Hawks is looking mighty dapper though!
  • Some nice posters there. The Mysterious Pilot rare daybill I love. have never sighted it before .

The Along Came Jones re-release daybill, Among The Headhunters New Zealand daybill, The Quiet Man oddity, and the Room At The Top, That Dangerous Age and The Burglar daybills I don't believe I have seen seen before.

It funny how the Burglar daybill switched her clothing to blue, rather than the US racy red insert! and how the NZ censor felt the need to cover the word "LUST' on Room At The Top.
  • Whoa! Where to start! Nice Daybills! Agreed, Mysterious Pilot is ultra cool! Man in the Sky is great design as well! :plus_one:

  • Great pickups there Wil!
  • Was there ever a unanimous decision on which order the Guns Of Navarone bills came? I thought some said yellow and some the greenish/blue. (with guns not boat?)
  • It's the greenish/blue with the guns. It's not unanimous but I'm sure.

Have you read the thread I posted a while back titled '' The Guns Of Navarone Australian daybill, O.S, & 3 sheet poster release identification countdown'' ? If you haven't it may be worth a visit.
  • Post a link Lawrence.

I read through it earlier on and followed the theory with Gregory Peck being front and center (along with the differing font) that the greenish one with the guns was considered the earlier print, however the thread ended with some disagreement?
  • If only there was another copy around to see what's missing from the bottom (only 32 inches remain). The artwork is actually some of the best I've seen in a long time and I'm almost tempted to have it linen backed (not restored).

All ''Filmed On Location In Greece'' marked Australian posters I stated are first release. Matt agreed. David disagreed but has never, after being asked by Matt and myself to explain why, has never responded.

And until I do it remains unresolved (although personally I don't remember the saga with much clarity).
  • Thanks, I'll take this NZ bill as the first release then, but David may or may not agree?  ;)
  • Peck's face in the green one's as well as the one sheet have better quality artwork than the others.

The colour on the Australian daybill is similar to the Belgian poster artwork which is a black.
  • I'm in love with  "Among The Headhunters".

Same, funnily enough I don't often uncover NZ printed bills.
  • The Quiet Man poster is a mystery. Interested in the poster size before I comment.

    350mm x 500mm.

Thanks for that. O.K. the size confirms firstly the poster is from New Zealand. Two unusual things about the poster are that Maureen O'Hara is billed before John Wayne and that never happened, except it happened here. Secondly Republic Pictures ( N.Z. ) Ltd. distributed Republic Pictures In New Zealand and not 20th Century Fox as was the case in Australia. General information about Australian Republic/Fox posters is that they were used in New Zealand and the 20th Century Fox credit was sometimes crossed out on the poster when used there.

Agree, it was also John Wayne's 125th (or as near as damn it) acting appearance, so highly unlikely anyone was higher than him in the billing stakes. Also agree with the oddity of having republic and 20th CFox written up above, I've certainly got enough examples of Fox's deletion elsewhere.

That said, although somewhat crude in design compared to the US example, I somewhat like it (even with the sunburnt top right corner).

  • I agree. The more one looks the more it seems to appeal to me.

Yeah, this is often the case with the early stuff...I find them hard to beat most of the time, and that's why I love them.
