Thanks guys! It was a lot of fun working on something since over a month ago. And yes, most of the wet work, masa, wheat paste & rolling out of paper is becoming very familiar. Not ready for my better pieces yet, but will be in a month or two. >- Yeah, the imagery for this Josey Wales is great!
Been tackling some tape removal today. Have just run up agains some nasty "stuff"! Charlie? Matt?
Any advice for removal of this black sticky/greasy what looks like some gooey electrical tape-i just removed the top-"release coat" but the "backing remains. Poster from 1940 so tape likely as old---Pictures below.
Well, about a gallon of Bestine later & I can't be too disappointed with the results...99% of tape is off-slight black residue will get scraped off but may have to tackle that in the wash.
Front side looks good-bit seems to have a residue "stain" from the Bestine. Should come out in wash. Almost lost a portion of the corner. Grade: B+
Don't have a steamer-need to go to Lowes to try to find one. Didn't try water either. Tape seemed to have a "greasy" feel to it, looks like electrical tape-there is what seems to be black tape "residue" left near the tape.
For the water- Should i use a syringe? Or soak the whole corner in a pan?
Thanks Matt! Two more pieces down! seems to be getting easier, figuring out how to soak, then carefully pry under tape, loosen, soak, pry, pull...hope for the best...:prayer:
Thanks guys, I had read about these pencils about a year ago & so far I'm very impressed with them. I've watched several videos on how to use them, and they are extremely versatile-wet or dry. It's like having pencils & paint. Now to apply them & experiment!
Finally got some dry/wet pencils to this one and cut it down. The only real large spot that needed attention was in the upper left. Other places/fold lines got some work, but others didn't.
Finished product. Completely satisfied? No. It had a few areas that could have used more help, but overall happy with final product. It was only my 3rd attempt & feel it is a solid effort after 4 months in the craft.

It is one tedious test of patience to remove tape! But also rewarding to actually get this stuff off-never encountered this type before.
Now, give them to your son and let him show you how!
He's a good artist, & likes Eastwood, but I'm guessing my Josey Wales would never look the same!
The FC pencils are great and can act as "paints"'but hoping to get some better coverage with these
