  • Hello Andy, and welcome to the forum.

Jollynice piece, what size is the part you Have?
  • Hi Paul ,

Yes It looks pretty cool , It measures 20x30 , if the poster was complete with the other piece it would meaure 60 x 20

I've never seen a door panel ( technically a Quad still ) in two pieces before... Was it cut? As there's usually an overlap piece of paper on multi paper pieces where they join.
It's an excellent find, I'd love something from that film..
  • A British door panel poster was made in two parts , both being 20x30 making up the full size poster to 60x20 .

I never thought I`d get anything on this film especially British paper , this one was advertised on emovieposter and I got it for  $28 , it has a st johns ambulance poster on the back and it was sold showing that and making very little of the dead of night image on the other side so incredibly I paid no more than what a reprint would cost , if they did a reprint on this poster which they dont . I got one cheap for a change, usually good stuff costs me,
  • btw not sure about the overlap on the other part of the poster , I`ll tell you if I get it , but there`s no overlap on the bit I`ve got
  • I do have a few Door panels from this period and they are all one piece...most odd.  Still you did get it for a steal, I don't do many main auction sites, but would have went a fair way for that piece, well done for getting it.  Makes me wonder if it was a couple of Double Crowns that could be made into a 60x20.

I have a couple of partial posters myself, and have been looking for the other parts for 20+ years and nothing so far. It's great searching for them but frustrating also.
  • Its the same size as a double crown poster , back in the early days of British posters they did make a few odd sizes, some of the quads arent 30x40 more like 28x38 mainly because of paper shortages during the war , they used what ever paper they could get hold of,  the dead of night poster I have is printed on the back of another poster, its all because of paper shortages ,they printed them on the back of maps too ,the Ceasar and Cleopatra half sheet I attached is on the back of a map of somewhere in Europe, I think it makes the British posters from those days extra special as it tells another story in a time when great films were made in Britain under incredible adversity.

Apparently whilst Caesar and Cleopatra was being filmed at Denham studios a flying bomb exploded and nearly hit Gabriel Pascal the director
  • Congrats on the poster.  No, I do not have the missing part but I think Dead of Night is a great film.

Bruce must have been sleeping the day that auction was posted by one of his staff members - surely he would have highlighted the Dead of Night over the Red Cross poster!
  • Yes unbelievable really but thats the truth ,and incidently this very same poster appeared at bonhams in London ,I think in 2011 ,it made £450 which is still cheap really , and then it ended up with Bruce, I know its the same one as it has the same little tears on it, besides theres only a handfull left in exsistance I would think
  • BTW yes sorry it was Red Cross on the back of Dead of Night, Its just me I always see them as the same as after 1939 out break of war they joined forces, ...put it in under auction history on emovieposter and you`ll see it
