Aussie Fake Paper

  • Thought of posting this in the Wonderful Life DB thread but here goes- Question: with all this discussion about the trimmed or untrimmmed borders & confusion regarding correctly dating Daybills has there been any fakes that have surfaced by higher priced titles? The past few days reading about DB's has convinced me how little I know about poster authentication/variety/studio habits, etc. I'd be fully trusting the auction house that they could spot a good fake.
  • There are very, very few fake/repro Aussie posters and those that do exist are pretty easy to spot. The reissue releases being sold as original releases are much more of a problem...
  • Thanks Chris...the most common fakes I've read of are the more contemporary "popular" titles, Star Wars, Jaws...but if a Wonderful Life DB can sell or upwards of 6-10k that seems like a candidate to me...guess it's more difficult to reproduce the poster...

It only sold for $1,000 :)

I think Aussie paper - if you've ever held it and 'felt' it - would be very hard to fake (especially the vintage stuff).

Not enough $$$ in it to fake Aussie posters really and that it just fine with me!
  • Oops! That's right...my train of thought was from reading David's post when he mentioned the Blackmail DB could reach up to 10k. Don't own any DB's and have only purchased 2 Aussie OS's. Have been warming up to the artwork on the DB's & hope to snare one soon. I especially like the DB for Bridge/Kwai! It crushes the U.S. versions!! :)>-

That's appropriate for this discussion - I believe there are 4 different versions/releases for the Kwai daybill so be careful!

This is the original release if you are interested:

Yeah! Love that one as well as the one which has the three individual boxed images of the stars...(has the insert image been removed from the bottom of the text box?)

Slide you way through the Recent Hangings thread, there are lots of members who have framed up Daybills. You can get a lot in a small space which means you can cover many different movies, genres and so on and it never looks out of place.

As far as fakes go, I've never seen one but like Chris said you more likely to be ripped off by a someone selling an incorrectly dated poster than you are a repro.
