The Immigrant - Joaquin Phoenix and Marion Cotillard
in Movie Talk
This is the epitome of the type of film that will be viewed as one of the best of the year but not be entirely appreciated or seen until years end once Oscars and Globes direct the public to it (e.g. 12 Years A Slave).
From a critical perspective The Immigrant was an 8.8 (out of 10) in my opinion - and a perfect 10 in terms of over all enjoyability. Undoubtedly the best film I've seen in-theater this year. Joaquin has always seemed to me one of the least likely yet best-developing, impressive actors of today. Marion Cotillard is clearly the delicate, emotional balance of the film as she navigates a new world and country while working to be reunited with her sister. And Jeremy Renner (Hurt Locker) is a dream and provides perfect support. Do not miss this one!
Especially wonderful for those of us who are still just a generation or two away from our first family members who immigrated from Europe or elsewhere.
