LUCY - Luc Besson, Scarlett Johansson
in Movie Talk
It wasn't my first choice for a weekend movie but as most of the early
summer blockbusters have cycled out of theaters it came down to Hercules
(no thank you! ) or Lucy. I found the subject and intent of the screenplay a valid, fascinating topic but like many good ideas, the quality of the film production didn't hold up to the brilliance of the concept and screenplay.
Lucy was a 6 (out of ten). It wasn't bad enough to leave the theater but felt thrown together; the obligatory car chase, badly drawn fake-tattoos on villains, predictable point-blank assassinations for shock value by yet another 'crime-lord', and surprisingly bad CGI diluted what was otherwise a wonderful concept.
Lucy is chapter-marked with updates of how much brain capacity she's utilizing (20%, 60%, etc). If I utilized 100% of my brain capacity I probably would have just waited for Lucy to appear on cable.
