Movie Poster Exchanges
Movie poster exchanges would buy posters from the studios and even the theater managers and rent them back out to theaters. Back in the day, movies would stay in circulation on an average of about 2 years. Posters would filter down from studio theaters to major theaters, to regular theaters, to neighborhood theaters, and finally rural and community theaters. Posters were needed for these presentations and based on film exchange policies to remove and 'trash' paper materials for room (for film), the lower markets found it hard to find advertising. This is where the poster exchanges filled the gap.
