Dating The Anthony Adverse Daybill

Anthony Adverse ( 1936 ). I have only located this image of Anthony Adverse recently and is the only Australian poster of any description I have ever seen. The above daybill poster was printed for the nationwide Australian re-release of the film in 1950. Above are two advertisements from 1950, with one stating reprint and the other revival. The image source of the daybill poster didn't mention it was a re-issue, but it definitely is. The size, the Warner Bros. logo and the printer are spot on for the 1950 re-issue. The only other official re-release that happened in Australia appears to have been in 1940 and a poster would have been printed then as a long daybill. Interestingly Anthony Adverse played in a lot of playdates with the re-release of the 1942 film Murder In The Big House. An original Marchant daybill of Murder In The Big House is available, but one from the 1950 re-release appears to be missing.

  • Yellow was popular in the 50s.

Was it being offered/sold as an original?

It was just being displayed as an image on Dr  Macro's site, with little details attached..
  • The 1950 Australian re-release of Anthony Adverse would have been for the U.S. 1948 re-release.
