Stage Door Canteen (1943) Daybill Movie Poster

A re-release or?

The poster has the original distributor's name printed on it. United Artists film rights reverted back to the original copyright owners very quickly in the 1940's and a re-release most likely would have been through someone like Ray or IFD so I would guess a second printing it is. Of interest is the image is reproduced upside down on the reverse of the poster.

Are you sure it's simply not a case of ink transference when a 'wet' poster was laid against the back of another?

Possibly - I am no expert at this sort of thing.

Another thing about the poster not being a re-release is due to the content matter being out of date by  the end of  World War Two I doubt it would have ever received a re-release anyway.

  • Bruce had two other daybill entries sold of Stage Door Canteen in 1994 and 1995 without images showing in the Auction History section, It would be interesting to see what their condition was like regarding an image on the back or not. As one sold for $13 and the other for $25. I would think they would be the same design duotone daybills as well and not the original full colour daybill version. It is probably too far back to retrieve any images though to check.
