China has the largest population in the world yet where are all the posters?

Surely there would be tonnes....somewhere?

Are there Chinese poster websites out there?

I've seen some older Hong Kong posters which I thought pretty cool, but I can't say I know of or have seen or even would recognise a Chinese one.

Although I did find this article on a Chinese website which discusses how the Asian movie posters have no shame when it comes to ripping off other designs from other countries.

Good question, Matt! I don't even know if they showed non-Chinese movies from the 1910s to the 1960s, and if they did, in what years they did and didn't show them (and if they produced their own posters when they did). So much to learn!

Another question is whether there are ANY Chinese poster collectors. I have sold to a few people in China, but those were westerners living there. There are many thousands of collectors from Japan and other Asian countries, so why not China?

And what about India?

Good info! But what about BEFORE "the Cultural Revolution"? And did they then destroy any old paper that remained?

Without knowing any Chinese collector one could only guess, if previous films were banned then one would think that perhaps the posters may have been destroyed or recycled for something else. I am sure a few exist saved by loyal film makers/aficionados but geeze must be such small numbers.

Yes, this program proves that movies like this DID play in China in the 1930s. So one can only assume that either no one saved posters, or that they were later destroyed.

I hope someone finds a "warehouse find" of them and proves me wrong!
