WB John Reid

And it's a welcome back to John who has been off sick after having a serious operation (lobotomy) recently - feel free to discuss it, he won't mind especially as that part of the brain is currently being recycled.

  • Good to hear all went fine, John! Welcome back.
As anyone can see in mine, and a few other member's posts, having a brain is not mandatory to participate here... =)
  • Good to have John back among us. Welcome home John.

  • Thanks for the welcome back. Still a long way to go with recovery and more tests to come but at least I can have a look at VMP from time to time!

  • Glad your back & doing better, John. Thought you'd been absent from the threads lately...

Hey John, question! I just noticed on your website, moviemem, correct? In some cases you mention who has actually linenbacked a particular poster for sale! That is very cool!

I know a year or two ago you has some trouble develop (foxing, sporting) on some of your one sheets.

Did you contract with that particular restoration person?---backtolinen.com?  Or did the poster come to you with those references?

Thanks for any info you can share.

PS-Since that while wheat paste discussion-I always try to mix mine as pure/carefully as possible.

Mark, www.moviemem.com is indeed my website and I do occasionally mention the name of the restorer if I know who backed the poster. Backtolinen is no longer in business due to a back injury but Megan did back a lot of daybills for me and they have all stood the test of time. Sadly, that is not the case with some other restorers. I have posters from a couple of restorers that have deteriorated over the years. It can take years for issues to appear and I am convinced that this is due to the quality of the paste and water that was used.

Helps if Megan is the one bringing you your Chardonnay and slippers each night too...
