  • Mystique is not really a woman... She's a mutant female who can turn into a man if she wants... Rose is just jealous that Lawrence is hotter than her.
  • I guess it is all about the examples we set in the real world even if the film is set in fantasy
  • I say change it to her kicking him in the bollocks, and lets see what happens...

There's FAR too much PC shit in the world now-a-days.

Oops, I hope I never offended anyone...
  • Paul said:

You are probably right but would a poster with white people with painted faces for The B&W Minstrel Show be appropriate today? White people would be defending it saying it's just a sing and dance show, African Americans might have a different point of view.
  • There is a great ad on at the moment on the telly in Victoria, which highlights how we teach our kids, both boys and girls, that boys being "mean" to girls is just what boys do...it's to be expected.

I have nephews in their late teens and early twenties.  It is heartbreaking to me to hear how they speak about the girls that come in and out of their lives.  All because they don't want to stand out or be different from their mates.

Almost every week here there is a news story about some woman somewhere in Australia that was killed by either her husband, ex husband, boyfriend or ex boyfriend...

I think they make a valid point...of ALL the imagery they have to choose from for this film, this is the one they decided would sell best...why exactly?

  • Someone send that video to that loser Depp.
  • Interestingly enough, we have rating classifications of movies for good reason.

    X-men Apocalypse

Expected MPAA rating: PG-13 for sequences of intense sci-fi violence, action and destruction throughout, some suggestive material, partial nudity and brief strong language.

The problem is the banner does not have a rating classification and seen by all including under 13. Childrens minds are very malleable. Of course media is not a be all and end all for influencing a child's behaviour, but certainly a factor.

A forum without an opinion is just a noticeboard.
  • I'm with Paul in the issue of excessive political correctness. I really don't think a movie poster influences in how men treat their close females. Education does, and lots of men lack proper education. Down here there's also an alarming number of femicides...
  • Sven make a good point that the movie is not allowed to be viewed by children due to its violence yet the posters is allowed to be seen by all in public doing exactly that.

Here's a movie poster that perhaps 50 years ago would have been banned, along with the movie.

And another, an example of the change of attitudes in society. A movie, albeit not exclusively dealing with the killing of wild animals, is about the 'great white hunter' and one does just that (hunts and kills a lion). Would you be allowed to show such scene or even a poster today? We've seen what happens to people on the internet when they post images of themselves posing with wild animals they have just killed on the hunt.

Personally I don't think it's about being too PC, I do think it is about attitudes, some just take time to change.
  • It's not that poster or an image influences someone to behave one way or another.

It is the fact that the image trivialises or rather makes something seem acceptable when it shouldn't.

If young people are bombarded with images of violence against women, you can't help but have them grow up confused, thinking that it is ok.

Let's face it, these days more than ever, kids are getting their education on what is right and "real" from tv, and lawd help us all, the internet...very few parents, with the need to work to pay the bills, are actually taking the time to teach their kids the right way to treat each other.

So for me, it is the normalisation of such images that really concerns me with two little girls, whom will have to (unfortunately) go out in the big bad world.  Lawd knows what they will have to contend with by the time they get to that age!

  • Well said Ves. A lot of wisdom and truth mentioned by you.The studio heads could have gone with countless images but opted for a controversial one. The controversy will only help the box office receipts.
  • My opinion is not of this poster.

It's the fact that we are driven to analyse whether this poster is good or bad....on consequence. That's just what we are now. THAT'S STUPID.

What does it have an effect/affect on?

Our society is sooo fucked up. It's driven by people who are what??????????

Driven by people who don't understand. Driven by young people who are distracted by the internet, facebook and such. Driven by money to be made in health and safety . FFS.

I honestly can't wait to grow old and...say ummmmmm

I can't use a Stanley knife at work because there was a number of accidents in the past people getting cut but one. It's banned.

    Same angle grinder.

    Same reciprocating saw.

I could go on. And Ves's point of the young being bombarded with images and info. Bang!

Spot on. I'm no parent but I'd like to hear more from parents and repercussions they are going through.

  • My point is

    The title people!

  • I'm sick of political correct police-but whether it's justified by "its just a movie" or its only one quick scene in the movie, kids see also sorts of inappropriate images/scenes in our digital world; I think they should have chosen a different scene from the movie for all to see. I have small children. Movies impress them/images impress upon them. They do adults as well.
