  • Awesome!
  • Thoughts on the TIM one sheets?  I know the first one is common, and I am assuming the second the is an alternative style for the release...anyone have anything to throw in as an alternative?

The first poster image is from the original Australian theatrical release in 1979.

The second image I believe was issued for the video release in 1983.

  • Thank you...much appreciated.  I wouldn't have guessed. ..

If you have a look at your marvellous collection of Australian film posters and check out all your Greater Union posters distributed by Greater Union you will find all posters up to part of 1982  will have the GUO logo on them as it  appears on the first original poster of Tim above. Stating sometime in 1982 this GUO logo was discontinued and the wording of Greater Union Film Distributors was introduced.

    Nice work Lawrence.
  • Are you absolutely sure that the second poster was printed for the video release?

No I am not absolutely sure. When I had said ''I believe"  my reason for this was the way in which Greater Union is printed and was only introduced on film posters in 1982 and as the video release happened in the following year 1983  I think it has to be a poster used for the video release.
  • I don't think there is any evidence at all to prove that the poster was for a video release. My feeling is that Tim was one of those films that had an extended run, most likely because it wasn't released in the US until more than a year after its opening in Australia. The artwork for the second poster was used for the international release (inc US publicity material). I think Tim would surely have been screened in Australia at the time of the US release and it seems logical that they would have used the international art as a "second printing".

Once again, no proof either way.
  • MOVING

    IMPRESSIVE

    STUNNING!

Leads me to think a later poster than for original release.

Why put Released in Australia by GUO Film Distributors if it was being used in Australia????  If it was for use overseas why not put the international distributor details on???

What stumped me was lack of rating...and lack of printer detail.  Am I am not sure I have seen a daybill in this style...John?  I reckon if daybills are out there, it could be for a later release, if not could be video I guess.

My two cents...(sorry flat out today, so only odd chances to drop in every now and again...)

I agree no proof at all the poster was used for a video release but I have a few concerns about it being a second printing around the time you are suggesting .

    a) The Greater Union name wasn't produced in the form showing on the poster at the time you are thinking a second printing may have occurred.

    b) The lack of a printers credit.

    c)  The lack of any Australian censorship. The poster wasn't produced for New Zealand as the poster has ''Released in  Australia by ...'' on it'

A point to make is I didn't say that the poster was printed for the video release but used for it. My thinking now the poster was printed in 1982 as a special poster for whatever reason and was possibly used also for the video release as well.

As you said no proof either way.

  • Since I just posted my comment I see some remarks from Ves which I hadn't seen prior to posting my comments. I see some of my observations tally with what Ves had to say.
  • Its one of those posters where we might never really know the exact origin/purpose for printing. However, I do feel fairly certain that it was used for cinema release. The one sheets I have picked up have come from collections found in old cinemas sometimes mixed in with the other styles.

Tim opened in the US in Sept 1981 released by Satori Productions and was not rated. The artwork used on the press kit and stills was the same as in the second poster so it does seem to me that the poster might have coincided with that release but who knows for sure.

I cant recall seeing a daybill. Maybe we can just call it a "special" poster.

*never heard of the movie till now, first one is a wonderful looking poster. Images, blue...

We agree on a ''special poster'' then. I'm still thinking 1982 was the year the poster would have been printed and in light of where your copies originated from apparently for cinema usage probably with limited numbers printed seeing it was at the tail end of the theatrical run with the video release not too far away. Being so close to the video release any left over stock possibly may have ended up  being sent out for the video release as well. Again we most likely will never know the story behind when and why the poster was printed.
  • Does anyone have or have seen a one sheet for the first Wog Boy movie?
  • Does anyone have images for original release aussie posters for Thoroughbred?
  • Does anyone have images for original release aussie posters for Thoroughbred?

Never sighted any posters. Using the work rare certainly applies correctly in this case.
  • Does anyone have images for original release aussie posters for Thoroughbred?
I cant recall seeing any posters for Thoroughbred but I do have a trade ad and a herald.
  • Does anyone have or have seen a one sheet for the first Wog Boy movie?

There is a smaller format one sheet for Wog Boy.

Thanks John.  I managed to pick up a Wog Boy one sheet recently.

Oh, are they are on your site?
  • The herald is on the site. I will see if I can find an image of the trade ad and post it here if I can find it.
  • Thanks John...found the Herald...would be good to see the trade ad if you have it.
  • I guess the designer of that wasn't superstitious.
  • Did a search on John's site for Heralds...if I was a rich girl....not something I generally look at collecting, but gees there are some real treasures there!

This is why I could never be a proper dealer.  I would want to keep everything!

  • Romanian for The Shiralee...just love it so thought I would share for those interested...

  • very unique art! very cool. theme of poster kinda depressing....homeless and on the road with small child?....

wow! just read the wikipedia description of the movie, powerful!!; may try to track it down and watch. Amazing how a poster can mean so much more when knowing the plot!
