Cleaning Banners

I just used cotton buds and water. Wet one end of the bud and rub any small dirty area then go back over the area with the dry end. You'll see results within seconds.

You can use a fine wet cloth but you don't want the paper getting too wet. We just want to remove surface dirt.

  • Btw, I only cleaned the white lettering.

Nice job matt! Came up better than i would expect
  • Warm or cold water works better?
  • Just cold, the paint on most banners is fairly thick, so most stains are on the surface of the paper. The thicker the paint, when the banner is rolled tightly will crack and fall off.

It does look twice as good now as opposed to when I first got it.

  • Cool Matt, Thanks for posting! It looks like and would guess that those white letters really pop now!

Re: cold or warm water-think Ive read where some paper conservators do wash documents in warm water in their labs. Guess it can help remove surface dirt?

Have you you heard of this? ...Charlie?

Matt-you should post an entire before & after pic-sure it will look great.

  • Thanks Mark. The before pic I had didn't really show up the dirty lettering. Kinda got blanked out with the flash.
  • Very good-did all the letters need cleaning? About how long did it take you...or about how many beers... =)
