 Sorry I had earlier given an incorrect clue for Boy On A Dolphin in error. The actress is indeed though the lovely Sophia Loren, but seen appearing below with John Wayne in the film Legend of The Lost from 1957.

 I must say Sophia does look similarly attired in both films that were released in the sale year.

A final clue is she played royalty on screen in the later stages of her career in a well known film.

As 284 has certainly proved much too difficult to answer, I will now provide the correct answer.

The actress in question is the British born Sylvia Syms as she is seen as she appeared in the British film Expresso Bongo from 1959. Not the type of roll she would be most remembered playing.


 

Sylvia Syms was appointed an OBE by the Queen in 2007.

As seen below with Dame Helen Mirren, who played Queen Elizabeth 11 in the motion picture The Queen from 2006 Sylvia played the Queen Mother.

Gypsy Rose Lee was an American burlesque entertainer, stripper, actress, author, playright and vedette famous for her striptease act. ( Wikipedia ).

 Seeing no one has picked up on my athlete and Vera miles clues, I will now announce the answer for 286.

The actress is Vera Ralston the Czech born as Vera Helena Hruba, the  former figure skater who turned actress in the U.S.A.  She was the wife of Herbert J. Yates the founder and President of Republic Pictures from 1952 until his death in 1966.

The depicted image scene was taken to promote the Republic Pictures production Timberjack from 1955.

 

My earlier Vera Miles clue referred to the fact that the U.S. actress born Vera June Ralston had to change her screen name to Vera Miles, due to the fact that the name Vera Ralston was already taken. A glamorous image of Vera Miles appears below.
