A clue for 281 is a close connection.
  • C281 - Cat People (1942) Tricky!

    Peter
  • C281 - Cat People (1942) Tricky!
Yes indeed 281 is the original version of Cat People. I do like to make things a little unconventional from time to time.

  • Lovely daybill too!

The above images may present a challenge for you to find answers for.
  • C283 looks familiar...

  • 283 clue is a now well regarded low budget cult classic.

284 clue was originally shot as a television movie, but ended up being released theatrically instead due to its content,
  • If 294 is The Killers, I just watched it. I thought the Lancaster version was better.

284 (not 294) isn't The Killers (1964). 1964 is very close to the time of release though. and remember the image in question is from a horror film. I do see from my last clue where you were working from.
  • Further clue for both images  283 and 284 is 1960's film releases.
  • Is C283 Carnival of Souls (1962)? A film I've never seen but seen stills from, this looks similar quality to others I've seen.

It is indeed Carnival Of Souls. Well figured out.

The film was released in the U.S.A. as the top of a double bill programme with The Devil's Messenger.

Regent (RFD) released the two films here in Australia and they were screened as a double bill at the small Sydney cinema the Lido which previously has been a newsreel theatre. It would appear that the Carnival of Souls was cut by our censors.

A U.S. one sheet of Carnival Of Souls and an Australian daybill of The Devil's Messenger.

I would like very much to sight an Australian daybill of Carnival Of Souls. Anyone happen to have one?

  • A final clue for 284 is House Of Wax.
  • C284 - is it Dark Intruder (1965)?

    Peter
  • C284 - is it Dark Intruder (1965)?
An excellent guess but unfortunately incorrect.

Dark Intruder was a pilot for a failed television series to be called The Black Cloak. If was produced by Alfred Hitchcock's television company Shamley Productions. but was deemed too scary and violent for mid sixties television and was sold by NBC to Universal Pictures. It was then edited and expanded into a feature film running 59 minutes (Edited from Wikipedia )

Sighted from another website the originally planned television series was to have been called House Of Wax.
  • O.k. time to reveal the answer for 284 to be Chamber Of Horrors from 1966. Firstly I would like to mention that Dark Intruder suggested earlier by Peter does resemble Chamber Of Horrors in many ways.

An interesting fact is that there was also an obscure early British silent horror film from 1929 titled Chamber of Horrors. This film is partly set in a wax museum. Unfortunately no posters or scenes from this film can be located.

Two new images to solve, with me thinking one should be easy to identity, while the other film could be difficult.
  • Easy one first - C285 "I walked with a zombie" 1943

The answer is certainly the minor poverty row PRC film The Devil Bat from 1940.                                                                                                          I I I had thought that this one would be difficult, so well done.

Correct and also well worked out. House On Haunted Hill from 1959.
