ISBN number

Hi  I am a new member and a relatively new collector of  Harry Potter movie posters.  Is there anyone out there who can help with this question?  I have Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone UK Quad (single sided).  In the bottom right hand corner is an ISBN number. (0 7475 5926), which when you type it into Amazon says it is a Harry Potter Movie Poster book (published by Bloomsbury).  So - is my poster a genuine movie poster?  Cannot seem to get an answer from any Lamp dealers.  Thank you. Barbara

  • What are the measurements of the poster?  It may be a book advertisement or Video poster - not sure why it would have a International Standard Book Number (ISBN)...

Are resident quad expert drops in regularly so keep checking in.

And Welcome!  Do you collect posters?

    Charlie
  • Hey can you tell me the last number?  I am wondering if it isn't just a tie in with a book release of the poster books release...
  • Well I've been searching around for a good while.  I can't find the ISBN on Nielsen the UK ISBN assigner.  All I find on amazon is a reference to the poster, but I did find additional posters with the ISBN.  I won't say it is 100% authentic sine it appears you can order as many as you want from (http://www.starstills.com/harry-potter-and-the-philosophers-stone-single-sided-original-cinema-poster/)

I would send it back if you still can and get the Double Sided version.

    But you never know...

  • Hi Charlie

Thanks for the info.  Much appreciated.  The dealer I got it from also mentioned a book tie in but the emovie site is the first one I have seen with the ISBN on.  The last number is a 0 (sorry not to have included it before).  Assumed starstills were all authentic as they state original.

Hi properly - I have been collecting since the beginning of the year.  Am a bit of a nerd really.  Really a Potter geek.  Decided to collect the movie posters.  But I have a studio and paint and have been really caught up with the fantastic artwork around and I expect I will expand  the collection.  Have about forty plus of the posters - all bar two are double sided.  I get a bit twitchy about how to make sure they are originals but go with LAMP dealers mostly.  Loving it though!
  • Just reread - the poster is 30 x 40 inches.  Standard quad size.  Have contacted Bloomsbury who publish the books and have asked whether the poster is a tie in with them.
  • It is all a mystery.  The starstills site single sided does not show the ISBN.  Am really pleased you found a site with ISBN on the poster.  Will post when
  • ...... I get reply from Bloomsbury.  Many thanks for your help!
  • I did wonder myself about the isbn number on the single sided Quad, but must admit never did any research on it, as it's not unusual for double and single side posters to be produced for the same film.

I'm not sure what Starstills are selling, but if it's single sided and doesn't have the isbn number, I'd be slightly concerned as all the ones I've seen have it, and to be honest, there doesn't seem many out there, I guess everyone is holding on to them...

And welcome to the forum Barbara, are you based in the U.K. ?
  • I think my biggest "huh?" is that you don't put ISBNs on posters.  You don't even put them on DVDs unless they are instruction.  Why in what world would an ISBN end up on a poster?  I could see that if the ISBN was the same as the actual book, but this ISBN is a huge clue to what it might be.
  • Hi Thank you for the info.  Interesting that you see more with than without the ISBN.

Yes - based in the UK.  Did not realise how big a thing collecting movie posters is.  Loving it!  Slightly more manageable than my husband's guitar collection!
  • OK so I've been running some ISBN numbers based on the same publisher and group but going backwards in title number.  The ISBN is right around the films release.  And usually the ISBN is secured before a book is published sot he time period is correct...

  • So I got an e-mail from a well respected poster collector calling this the "Book Store" version.  He is confident this poster is not from the theatrical release but also not necessarily a fake and from some book store promotion.  He insisted, like I suggested, to stick with the double sided version for a true theatrical poster and to stay away from any single sided versions without the ISBN.

That's all I've been able to wrangle up.  Next we need to find some bookstores with the ISBN quad in them and the case will be closed.

  • Nice work Charlie and welcome Barbara!
  • Thank you so much for all your research!  Really appreciated.   I still have to hear from Bloomsbury and will post when I hear anything.  Am in London quite a lot so will pop into some major bookstores and see if I can glean any info from them.

I have some bookstore posters of later books in the series and non of those have ISBN numbers on them.  Oh the mystery of it all!

Thanks for the advice about the single sided versions.  Have managed to get a double sided so am very happy.

    Really impressed with this forum!

  • Someone had and itch, had to scratch it until it went away. Great work Charlie!
