2001: A Space Odyssey Daybills
I posted about these years ago on NSFGE. Thought I would bring it back to life to see if anyone has additional info:
So which one is the original, first release?
1)

2) "Red Rocket"

The main differences I see are: A) the 'red rocket', B ) the blue coloured printer info vs. red coloured printer info on #1, C) the extended blue border on #1 vs #2 and D) differences in the stars/background art
The consensus on this third one seems to be that it is a later 70s release...what about the first two?

But still, when I see two posters for the same movie, with the same image and the same (or no) printer details, I am going to say that the more colorful one is PROBABLY the first release, and the less colorful is PROBABLY a re-release. It makes almost no sense to argue they were released simultaneously.
A similar GENERAL rule (with exceptions) is that most first release non-U.S. posters for U.S. movies usually have the original studio on them, while most re-release first release non-U.S. posters for U.S. movies usually DON'T have the original studio on them. So when I see a non-U.S. poster for a U.S. movies without the original studio on it, I immediately suspect it is a re-release, unless I get additional information otherwise.
