Charlie Chan
Has anyone have or has seen an original Australian daybill image of the Charlie Chan film The Golden Eye ( 1948 )?
I am a great fan and I know there are others among you who are as well who would love to sight the original BEF colour daybill.
The attached image is from the 1950's IFD re-release which is a poor excuse for artwork although Roland Winters likeness isn't bad.

If anyone has an original image please post it.

The Golden Eye ( 1948 ) was released in Sydney by BEF in 1950 and would have had a full colour daybill produced by W.E.Smith for it's release.
In the early part of the 1950's Monogram /Allied Artists films distribution in Australia changed from BEF to United Artists. Films previously distributed by BEF such as The Golden Eye, Sky Dragon ( another Charlie Chan), Jiggs And Maggie In Society ( 1947 ) & others had re-release rights granted to smaller independent film distributors and they started to be re-released around 1954 by IFD with duotone daybills printed.. Later in the decade Monogram/ Allied Artists product previously released by UA were given re-release rights to National Films Of N.S.W. through IFD as well.
There should also be full colour daybills for Sky Dragon & Jiggs And Maggie In Society printed by BEF around somewhere.

Something else of interest . Of the 17 films produced by Monogram and released in Australia by BEF I have only been able to find images of 8 full colour daybill posters along with 2 re-release IFD duotone posters.
This means there are 9 Charlie Chan full colour BEF daybill images not sighted. The missing Charlie Chan titles are---
The Chinese Cat
Black Magic
The Jade Mask
Dark Alibi
Shadows Over Chinatown
The Trap
Docks Of New Orleans
The Golden Eye
Sky Dragon
If anyone has an image or images of any of these titles it would be appreciated if you would post them.
It is interesting that there are multiple copies of certain daybills from the 1940's such as Ziegfeld Follies, Woman Of The Year, Hamlet, The Picture Of Dorian Gray to name a few but there are still a lot of titles unacounted for.

There is an IFD re-release duotone daybill of Sky Dragon but still I have not sighted an original BEF first release daybill. I know BEF printed daybills fot this title as I have seen an Australian BEF Pressbook which states that a colourful daybill was available.
Thanks Chris for posting the rare The Chinese Cat Australian daybill image. This reduces the total of what was previously nine missing Charlie Chan BEF released daybills titles to now being eight.
A reminder for anyone interested in Charlie Chan Australian posters to visit for the first time, or maybe even revisit my other introduced C.C. thread titled Rare Charlie Chan Poster.,This thread contains four rare BEF Australian one sheet images, and the only BEF one sheets I have ever sighted.
Apart from a small number of one off Charlie Chan films made, there was a series of Charlie Chan films released berween 1931 and 1949 made by Fox then 20th Centurty Fox and Monogram. There were a total 45 films released in the series.
I have located 20 full colour first release daybills printed for the series, leaving 25 still to be located, with 16 from either Fox or 20th Century Fox and 9 Monogam titles. Of the 25 there definitely will be 14 long daybills, 9 are 13 x 30 and two that were released in Australia in 1941. They could be either size though, but leaning towards13 x 30, but finding the daybills will be the only way to determine this.
I have just located another BEF daybill and altered the above, and made a few other adjustments as well. Please disregard the original June 13 posted information.
The missing 23 Charlie Chan daybills from the 1931-1949 series, to the best of my knowledge, are as follows.
Charlie Chan Carries On ( Fox 1931 )
Charlie Chan's Chance ( Fox 1932 )
Charlie Chan's Greatest Case ( Fox 1933 )
Charlie Chan's Courage ( Fox 1934 )
Charlie Chan In London ( Fox 1934 )
Charlie Chan At the Circus ( 20th Century Fox 1936 )
Charlie Chan At The Olympics ( 20th Century Fox 1937 )
Charlie Chan At Monte Carlo ( 20th Century Fox 1937 )
Charlie Chan In Honloulu ( 20th Century Fox 1939 )
Charlie Chan At Treasure Island ( 20th Century Fox 1939 )
Charlie Chan In City Of Darkness ( 20th Century Fox 1939 )
Charlie Chan in Panama ( 20th Century Fox 1940 )
Murder Over New York ( 20th Century Fox 1940 )
Dead Men Tell ( 20th Century Fox 1941 )
Charlie Chan In Rio ( 20th Century Fox 1941 )
Black Magic ( BEF 1944 )
The Jade Mask ( BEF 1945 )
Dark Alibi ( BEF 1946 )
Shadows Over Chinatown ( BEF 1946 )
The Trap ( BEF 1946 )
Docks Of New Orleans ( BEF 1948 )
The Golden Eye ( BEF 1948 )
Sky Dragon ( BEF 1949 )
Just an added mention that there was a Fox released 1929 sound film titled Behind That Curtain that featured the Charlie Chan character. E.L. Park played Charlie Chan in what was a very minor role appearing only at the end of the film. No daybill sighted.
If any of the above missing titles are spotted at any time by anyone, please be as kind as to post the images here on this thread?
Some people may not have previously seen the above rare Charlie Chan daybill that surfaced in March of 2021.
Finally a mention that on the forum's earlier posted W.E.Smith titled thread there are excellent images of five Charlie Chan daybill images included there.
Thanks Dave for the image, and a beauty to boot.

The above barebones Australian Sky Dragon daybill is a 1950's re-release poster.
No sighting of an Australian first release daybill, or a one sheet to date.
No images of any posters available to view on part of an Australian press sheet appearing below. The newspaper advertising though, along with the U.S.A. insert poster would indicate to me that the original Australian daybill most likely printed by W.E.Smith would be a very nice poste indeed. The known BEF W.E. Smith Printed Australian Charlie Chan posters from the 1940s have all displayed excellent artwork.
Hopefully an original daybill copy, along with the other missing Charle Chan tirles wlll surface one day.
