Yes, that clue did it!
-
Is C429 "12 O'Clock High" 1949
-
I wonder whether the film "Immediate Disaster" lived up to its name? 🤔
It might have been a "Rich and Rich Production, but rich didn't extend to the printing of the daybills! -
Do you think The Wife of Monte Cristo daybill is a first printing? Or a re-issue?
-
Ah! I see it now.
-
Is 320 Scream (1996)?
-
Unless another example is found, it's as close as it can be.
-
It should have been obvious from your clue about BB, I don't know what I was thinking!
-
C631 - Footlight Parade (1933)
-
I assume they would have been double features? The 'very' bottom of the bill?
-
Maybe they used stock posters for smaller releases? I assume those films would have had limited release? Or were people beating down the doors to go see another Chick Chandler film?
-
Surely it can't have been that expensive in those days to print something up? Maybe they just did a very small print run?
-
Yes, the film is pretty out there!
-
Ah! The mask of fu manchu (1932) - with Boris Karloff - another Warner Archive BluRay that was recently restored.
-
Well then, it's the "Return of Dr FuManchu" (1930) - I watched them both on the Kino BluRay recently, knew it was one of them.
-
This might give it away in the description "Backed on linen, airbrushing and some replacement have addressed edge wear, pinholes with tears, creases, a couple of gouges, and slight chipping/trimming along parts of the edges."
-
Do you think it's been restored and the bottom touched up?
-
That's what I was thinking of!
Is it The Mysterious Dr Fu Manchu (1929)? -
It's on the tip of my tongue and I'm going to scream when you reveal the answer! I'm sure I've seen this recently.
-
I was thinking of other films around that period, but didn't get this one!
-
I'd suggest waiting until Black Friday, also subscribe to MovieZyng emails, they're actually the prime distributor for Warner Archive titles, and usually have a birthday sale for the archive.
But I just checked, and Amazon have The Beast … -
The BluRay, like all recent Warner Archive presentations was amazing. Probably looked better than when it was first exhibited, also included a commentary track (I always listen to those).
-
C 318 - I just watched the restored BluRay a few wees ago - The Beast With Five Fingers (1946)
-
The unfortunate thing about a lot of horror films of that period is that I'm unfamiliar with them, I'll keep trying though!
-
Did PRC have an Australian distributor for ANY of their films? Perhaps they were too small to be able to market their films internationally?
-
Yes, all Warner Archive titles are Region Free on BluRay. That's why they're so appealing!
-
I'm curious as to why it has "El verdugo de Hitler" written in Spanish on it? Was that used in any other poster artwork?
-
I'd love to know the origins of that and where it was used.
-
I'm not trying to turn this into a sales page, and I certainly don't get commission, but try Moviezyng, they should ship to Canada and are the main distributor for Warner Archive BluRays...but, maybe wait for Black Friday, they should have a sale.Doctor X, because I'm a fan of early (and all) Technicolor. Mad Love was also a favourite, hadn't seen it until it was recently restored. Those restorations are amazing, makes the films look brand new.
