Don't forget that the Sea Hawk 3sht (1940) has the same logo issues as Robin Hood. It was unrestored when sold by HA.

John, don't despair, as nearly all of these issues can be answered by referencing Everyones / Film Weekly mags. The National Library has the full set running right through to the 1970s. Having them digitised would be of enormous … -
After calling Lawrence out for barking up the wrong tree, I'm going to backflip and say they are later. There is probably some special reason that may be revealed with more study.
VP printed other material, including travel posters, so more…

Lawrence, for what it's worth, I do get the feeling there is a possum up that tree. Hope that gives you the pep for some more study time!
What would warrant the 3sht posters being printed is an appearance by Errol Flynn in Australia. Adventures… -

Here is a UA RR press sheet c1952 for Red River which was re-released to coincide with Montgomery Clift's AA nomination for A Place in the Sun.…

Truth and Sportsman were printing in the 1950s. Have a look at the press sheet image I am posting in the Robin Hood thread.

Don't forget that one sheets are on a smaller scale. They may have had a different (larger) template for their three sheet logos.

Here's an early Victory logo, Lawrence:

Lawrence, I had a look at a lot more WB posters from the 1930s & '40s & am starting to lean your way on this.
The Robin Hood one sheet HA sold was printed by Hackett Offset. Do you know if they ever printed any three sheets?
-
The question for me is this:
Did they print identical three sheets for a re-release 11 years later on both Robin Hood & Sea Hawk?
They might have, but I would need to see a RR press sheet or other more convincing proof to believe that.… -
I have the Errol Flynn movie posters book by Lawrence Bassoff, and all the US material shows an un-banded logo between 1948 - 1952 (pics of original lobbies, posters etc).
Saying the Sea Hawk 3sht is a re-release on the basis of that newspa…

By that you mean he's barking up the wrong tree?? (sorry, couldn't resist)! -
I like Hondo's angle with the Victory logo, but having been down this road before, I know there are almost no examples from the period to compare against, so definitely not conclusive in that area.
I only had a quick look, but the green rat…

I think you're barking up the wrong tree here.
Sea Hawk (WB 1940) 3sht was also printed by Victory. There is good reason to believe this is orig…

Now you're moving forward.
We may not always find documented proof of a release date, but by observing the trends and practices of the time, you can make a more informed decision. This applies to the style of poster, film co, distributor, p…

Something with a little better art for Hondo's sci-fi archive:

The Paramount titles are cheap silk screen jobs, while London Films has invested some time and effort into the artwork on Devil Girl. I doubt they would have skimped on the colour, but until a full-colour daybill turns up, no one can be certain.<…

Hondo loves a good challenge, so let's see if he can come up with any 1950s sci-fi / space daybills that weren't originally printed in full colour.
-
We've seen 2 colour second printings from this time period, so actually there is good evidence to support the idea. The vast majority of daybills were in full colour, so Devil Girl should be suspected as a 2nd printing imo.
Prove to me it i…

(Quote) Are there any colour Aussie pressbooks from that period?
Personally, I wouldn't rely too heavily on Aussie press material for source artwork. They have proven to be somewhat unreliable. -
Reminds me of King & I 2nd printing below, which is in stark contrast to the full-colour 1st release.
I bet there is (was) an impressive full colour db for Devil Girl.in Hondo's Daybill and One Sheet Q&A [Re-Titled] Comment by Mark February 2016

Such are the highs and lows of life I guess. (I'm very philosophic today).

A point to remember in all this is that cinemas were their own business. Fox might have printed 1500 daybills, but perhaps only a handful of exhibitors actually ordered the film. Where Wes says he had 25 daybills, I know from previous discussions…
-
The others here know Wes as an avid collector. He also spent most of his working life in the cinema trade as a projectionist, manager and cinema owner. I have presented his response unedited, which is just his recollection of events that happened…
