David, they rarely actually called them KKK when they made films in the 20s-40s. They were anomalous hooded gangs, but we all knew they were metaphors for the KKK. Generally speaking, if they actually called them KKK, they would have a bevy of problems from not having the films shown in many towns in the South, but also potential violence against the theatres or production companies..
