  • All orig release Fantasia. Adds to the humiliation.
  • Disney research mafia. Club you to death with a roll of daybills!
  • Same on daybill & one sheet. Might have used a photograph of US art?
  • Something a bit different (some are re-releases).
An interesting point on Diamonds are Forever is that all the Aussie paper has a mirror image of the art. See girls on opposite side & buggy pointing other way etc. The only pl…
  • Glad you're a resourceful fellow with plenty of spare time!
  • In '87 the style was still with white borders and lengths around 26 - 27 inches (see Lethal Weapon, Untouchables, Fatal Attraction, Secret of My Success etc).
I think that poster is nudging into the v. early '90s when the lengths became even sho…
  • I bet Steve knows the problem. Maybe he'll point it out.  :P

  • I was so glad to see the last 3000 go, so definitely no more!
Plus it's fun watching them get recycled. Repros & video being sold as "originals", US advertised as Aussie etc etc. What entertainment!

  • That link is working for me, Chris. Maybe try a search on Koru framing studio Sydney.

This is a lovely old cinema that sells modern posters:

  • Sometimes the daybills are dated, and pretty commonly in the 1980s. I've had a lot with handwritten play dates on the back & often they are 1 - 2 years later, but sometimes more.
After the cinema release they would start hiring out 16mm pri…
  • Maybe an adjusted system R (re-release) C (circa) 1980 etc?
  • I looked in some records and there are both 28 & 30 inch examples of the white background poster. That means it will be from 1979 - 1981.
At the crossover ('79 - '81) you often find the same design daybills in 28 & 30 inch lengths and a…
  • From approx 1980 on they change to gloss paper & the daybills become shorter i.e. 28 inches, then 27 etc.
Both the posters you have pictured carry the abbreviated ratings and look to be 30 inches long on matt paper. That puts them in the 197…
  • Years ago I used to compete against Greg on ebay. Attempting to outbid him was a futile exercise and I'd always hope he didn't see the posters I wanted!
This place flies under the radar but has some good posters:

  • Here is another clue to think about.
The three sheet style has the tag "The greatest high adventure ever filmed" whereas the others have "The greatest high adventure ever written and filmed". Add to that the book image being added, and the probl…
  • It's hard to argue against Phil r.e the rating. Sat Night Fever came out as R but was quickly reclassified to M. As far as I'm aware it all happened in the same year, so technically both posters are orig release. A bit like Star Wars with blue / pin…
  • I looked at a few of the other Columbia daybills from 1961 and they all have Robert Burton printed on the right bottom border and use the Statue of Liberty co. logo.
The three sheet suggests a first release, but that poster lacks the book tie-in…
  • (Quote) They did stick them up on poles, but only if there was one cinema in town! Many of the Aussie collectors here would know Wes A who was a long time cinema manager. He would order 20 daybills at a time and get his kids to run around town st…
  • Yes, I'm a dinosaur.
    Toddling off ...

Just so you know it was working okay a week ago when I logged on with IE & posted some pics.
  • I'm running XP on my desktop!
    It's IE9 & gets updated automatically.
A lot of people are still on the older software and may have problems. Perhaps some notice to site users?
  • Yeah, it's post 1962 & looks it!
1950s daybills are pretty rough printing wise & there is a lot of inconsistency in the quality.
  • Using IE (Vista) I couldn't post today and kept getting a message: "VMP is not responding due to a long-running script."
Also couldn't log in until I clicked on participated button and used that sign-in box.
Seems to all work okay on C…
  • All evidence suggests that the daybill printer for MGM in 1958 was Chromo Print. Robert Burton doesn't start printing for them until 1963.
  • 007 I picked up recently >>

  • The triangular ratings box works best for me.

Can hear Matt cursing me all the way from Melb!
