A new listing on eBay for a U.K. Quad of House of Frankenstein ( 1944). Advertised as an original poster with a price of 900 pounds U.K. ( $ 1,566.87 Australian ). What it should have said is '' an original re-release poster of House Of Frankenstein ( 1944 )''.

What information is available about this poster ? Did the live show and film screening as advertised ever happen in Australia and if so when ?

Tarzan 3-sheet

Hi guys. I have this Tarzan 3-sheet from which I can't find any information online. I believe it was used locally here in the 50s but by the style to me it looks like it could originally be from the 30s? The title has been painted over (Tarzan and His Mate) but at the bottom it only says Tarzan, so I figure it could have been just a general Tarzan poster.

Does anyone know anything about it? What would you estimate this for value? I'm thinking of suggesting a trade to a collector who likes the film and he has a poster that I want, but before it I'd like to hear some kind of valuation. It has originally been linenbacked by the distributor like all big posters did back then, and it has some issues but I think it's a beautiful poster.

Second printing versus Re-Release?

Hey gang!

I emailed eMovieposter the other day to tell them that, in my opinion, some daybills they had listed as second printings were most likely RRs instead. My thought process was simply because the film (Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed) showed around Australia from 1969 into the mid 1970s and surely it wasn't in cinemas the entire time - hence RR.

Matt from eMovie came back to me to query how I determine the difference. In his view, a RR would have been likely to attract an updated rating (e.g. from SAO to M). Films re-released such as Jaws don't appear to have been re-rated.

I was curious as to what you guys and gals think? Are / were movies re-rated by the OFLC each time they were released back in cinemas?

I get the feeling that there may be no definite answer, but happy to see what people think!

The Adventures of Robin Hood Australian 3 Sheet

On another thread titled Robin Hood Daybill the daybill of this title is currently under discussion. The posted image here is of a rare Australian 3 sheet of The Adventures Of Robin Hood ( 1938 ). Sold by Heritage in the past as listed as being an original poster from the 1938 Australian release but is it? Before I comment does anyone agree or disagree that it is original release? Love to hear comments from anyone.

This daybill is often described as a reissue but I actually think it is more likely to be the original first release. The fact that a daybill is not full colour or not as impressive as later releases doesnt necessarily mean it is not original. There seem to be a lot of different versions of this daybill. I would be interested in what you all think â€¦.

I am trying to date a local photo of Aberdeen, Scotland in which a local cinema is depicted in the background. The film being shown is advertised on a large poster above the entrance but the quality of the image is not clear enough to read the film title. The image has been enhanced as much as possible and I was hoping that some film buff might recognise the poster from the layout and put a name to the film, thereby giving an approximate date of the photo. I know it's a long shot but it's worth a try.

I got a few of these but I am unsure of the release dates in Oz. I am fairly confident it wasn't when the movies came out as the person from whom I got these cards from worked there from the mind/late 70s thru to the late 80s.

A Man is Ten Feet Tall vs Edge of the City

So I recently pick up the daybill for A Man is Ten Feet Tall...and when doing a bit of research found, it seems to have been re-released a few years later as Edge of the City, with a completely different daybill.

My question is why? Any ideas.

Hi guys and girls!

I've located 2 different daybills for the Warren Beatty film 'Lilith'

The one on the left is a NZ release, but is it a poster purely for NZ? The stamp suggests that it's an Aussie poster being used in NZ, but there's no obvious blank space where an Aussie rating might go. I haven't go the NZ poster in my hands to look at the printer, but both posters appear to be Robert Burton. Interested to hear your views!

Time between original release and Australian release

As you know I collect some pretty bizarre, low brow stuff and an interesting (to me) part of that is the time lag that exists between when some of these films were first released against the Australian release. Two and three years is common, but I've got some examples that are much longer!

Original date, Australian date in brackets

* The Psycho Lover - 1970, (1978)
* Zero In And Scream - 1971, (1980)
* Devil's Angels - 1967, (1974)
* Fugitive Girls - 1974, (1981)
* The Notorious Daughter Of Fanny Hill - 1966, (1973)
* Tropical Ecstasy - 1970, (1978)
* Terror Of The Vampire - 1971, (1977)

Does anyone have any other examples?

Easy Rider ( 1969 ). Easy Rider was first released in Australia in 1970. Both these posters are sometimes referred to as being Australian daybills and from the original release. Your thoughts ?

Same Poster Different Censorship

This type of censorship rating change on Australian posters has been mentioned before from time to time. During my years of film poster research I have noticed some examples, particularly during the 1950s, but I never kept a record of them. I intend to start compiling a list of examples as I look back through my poster image files but if anyone has any images they would like to share it would be appreciated.

Since Lawrence's question has had everyone doing a lot of (excellent) research to uncover the facts it has also turn up a few other things along the way. And so, whilst looking into the Robin Hood Aussie 3SH question I came across the following AU3SH.

Would Lawrence or anyone like to have a crack at dating the Australian 3SH poster below.

It's alongside I've shown it (on the left)alongside the R55 Daybill (on the right). The daybill is printed by W.E Smith, the 3SH doesn't appear to have a printer's mark on it

Also a question - has anyone ever seen a US 3SH for this movie?

Odd ratings

Hi guys,

I have a daybill for the film 'Tomb of Ligeia' that has an X rating. The poster is most likely mid to late 1960s, but I don't think I've seen another horror poster with an X rating - anyone have any clues?

Also, another Poe film, 'The Premature Burial' has a rating of 'SAO' - similar time period as 'Ligeia' and another rating I've not seen elsewhere - I'm thinking 'Strictly Adults Only', but I would appreciate any info people might have.

For a Few Dollars More Italian one panel... First release has different credits. The rerelease has a fold in the image.

Any idea if this quad is the original or re-release and how can you tell?
