Posting Images V3 - Two Steps to Easy!

As the forum's software evolves we now have the easiest way ever to post images. This applies to images hosted elsewhere on other website such as eMovie (Bruce kindly allows us to use his images), Heritage or even Facebook (it does not apply to images on your computer).

Right click on the image and click 'Copy' or 'Copy Image' (depends on your browser)
Right click here and paste.
Easy.

Note:

In some cases you may have to left click on the image first before you can right click and copy, this is the case with Facebook. Click on it first, the image pops up, right click/copy.
Some websites have coding that won't allow you to right click copy, so this won't work - however, for those who are technically minded will know this is very easy to overcome

Photobucket Disables 3rd Party Hosting

Forums of the world are discovering that Photobucket is ransoming image hosting for a cool $399 per year, certainly a pain in the ass.

So, as we don't like you uploading images directly to the forum (because it's bandwidth and it costs money that we don't have and you don't want to pay - so what about options.

What do you recommend?

While this may be true, the software comes with it's own set of Badges and Points system so they're here to stay and for the most part they are awarded automatically by the forum's software based on each person's actions eg posting a comment, adding a picture, signing in and so on

I'm mostly interested in UK Comedy Posters from the 60's & 70's.

Poster shop in Scotland?

im new on here and was just wondering if anyone knows of a shop I could visit in Scotland that sells original posters.

Ive started getting back into collecting (couldn't quite quit this addiction ha ha) and used always get them sent over from the states but would really like to visit a store if there is such a thing.

Also so anybody know of a gallery that shows them off as well?

Tip 1. Drag and Drop (from Heritage)

As we know emovieposter.com kindly allows us to hotlink images from his website, this is a great help and we thank Bruce for that.

Heritage on the other hand makes it a little more difficult, in fact you can't hotlink an image by pasting the image link as you normally would. However, there is a workaround...

Click inside the comment box (you are going to make a post in).
Now open a second tab *Ctrl-T) and go the the image gallery on Heritage.
Find the image in the gallery (don't open)
Left click/hold over the poster in the gallery area then drag across to the forum tab and release into the post, tada!

There are two ways to post pictures.

Option One - The Easy Way (aka - do this one)

When you are ready to add a picture to your post/text click the image icon button - that's 5th icon from the right, for those of you who can't count (or read) - view this picture:

A box will pop up and then all you have to do is paste the url into that box - (the url the web link where your image is being hosted eg Photobucket). If you are copying from Photobucket (which is FREE and most of us use) then you copy the web address that is in the Direct box. But you MUST copy that link and then click the image icon (as instructed above) paste the link into the popup box and then...

That's it! You are now the 43rd smartest person in this forum.

Option Two - The Geek Way (aka - why bother)

The second way is to add this to the html code by first clicking on the source code icon |<>| next to the 'paste text' button and then enter this code:

http://image_url_here.jpg">

with your image url into the html editor. If you check the html |<>| you will see in both cases the first automatically puts the code in and the second was manually put in.

(I've just been told how to use this one, by resident IT expert Matt)

If you are logged on when you arrive to the forum you will see NEW Discussions (those you have not yet read) highlighted with a yellow and (say) the wording 5 new (or whatever number of posts there since you last read that discussion/thread)

If you don't wish to read anymore but want to get rid of all the unread discussions:

Click the 'gear' icon to the right of your avatar/name
A Dropdown menu will appear
Select 'Mark All Viewed'

Done.

Forum Software Update

Just to let you know we will be updating the forum software shortly.

You may have noticed the formatting has disappeared (the ability to add pics, bold posts etc) - we kept the old software running due to certain members having difficulty when we upgraded last time (so we downgraded), but as the software continues to upgrade without us we are seeing issues with our older version so we have no option but to now upgrade.

We'll add videos asap, however if you get stuck, ask here - Matt our Resident Geek will answer. :P

How to Add An Image To Your Post

I apologise for the size of the video - you can watch it on YouTube (click the YouTube logo at the bottom of the video) and it will be fine or watch it here. To view it better (here) go full screen by pressing the little square icon at the bottom right of the video once you've started playing it - it may be blurry initially but the video will re-focus for you after a couple of seconds.

Emoji, Emoticons, Smileys

Having hosted forum/bulletin board software is great, it is always up to date, always comes with the latest features, keeps up with the times i.e sign on with social networks, easy to post pics, videos etc, can post html (eg you can copy n paste post an entire web page) and so on. I mean, look what happens if you don't keep your software up to date (and this will happen to almost everyone eventually if they don't stay update: http://www.movieposterforum.com/index.php?

The problem is sometimes the developers get too clever (read: geeky) for their own good. Recent updates saw changes in our little smiley icons (called emjoi) - basically you now can see only eight when you click the drop down, apparently you are supposed to know the shortcode (the text) that you use to bring up the correct smiley. For example if you want to give the thumbsdown :minus_one: you gotta know to type in :minus_one

Anyway, I have expressed my dismay at this recent upgrade...looks like they will be fixing it. In the meantime if you need to use a "smiley" the image below is a ready-reckoner, just type in the text as indicated, the software will begin to auto choose to help.

Chat is here! If you haven't found it, it it located at the bottom right of your screen. A little tab. Just click the message icon and it should pop up. Position and Size Play with the icons on the chat box to get a feel. You can change the side of the page. Switch to full screen (which is just top to bottom, not the entire screen). You can also increase the width of the box by placing the pointer at the edge and waiting for the double arrow to appear - click and drag. You can turn off the user list by clicking the double head icon or you can simply resize the space by placing the pointer at the mid line and waiting for the double arrow to appear - click and drag to your liking. Right now anyone can get on and use it. This is great if you are a guest and just want to poke around and ask questions. There are multple ways to participate. 1. Just click and operation as a simple guest like "guest_ireland". 2. Rename yourself at the bottom left of the box by clicking the down arrow next to your name and change the given guest name. 3. Best option is to click the down arrow, sign out, and then set up an account on chatwee - you can also go through your facebook login. You can use the same user name and password as the forum. Option 3 allows you to add an avatar. Member to Member Chat You can also carry on a one-on-one chat with another user simply by clicking their name in the user list and a second chat box will appear. Posting Pictures You can post a simple url and it will read and pop up the image. Posting Videos You can post videos just like the forum with a simple copy and paste. Uploading Files You can actually upload files and images as well by clicking the "+ Document" Icon. Jason sent us an excel file last night... Smileys There are smileys as well... Moderation We can set moderators and what not, but we won't need it right?

Now, scroll to the bottom of the (front) page and zoom in, just under the footer message where it says "This forum is powered by some old posters", you will see the words/link "switch to mobile version" - click it and now you are good to go! Login, sign up, join in or lurk...

To get around the website use the special menu which is located to the top left of the site/page (just to the left of the top banner) - it's those the three three horizontal bars, clicking that will bring up a full (mobile version) menu and you can now access the rest of the site.

Technology...go figure!

Feel free to start your own Discussion or Ask a Question

Simply click the New Discussion button on the left menu, add it to the Category it needs to go and away you go!

By clicking the drop down arrow of the New Discussion button you can also Ask A Question, then when you get an answer that is what you are looking for you just confirm that the answer was helpful (this helps other members find the answer quickly too).

Hide your answers or the movie plot, use spoiler tags

If you would like to hide something that gives the read a choice as to whether to read or not, use the spoiler short code. Very easy to use, write down you text, highlight it with your cursor, then click the spoiler short code - that is the icon with a drop down arrow on the left of the smiley face on your formatting menu above. Click the word spoiler - done!

Easy huh?!

Advanced Editor

We've just added an Advanced Editor for you when positing, for those used to the old way (which was very good) this may take a little getting used to but there's a whole lot of woohoo stuff if you care to use it, things like tables (great for those selling posters who want to post images and details) and way way more... In addition we have added shortcodes - so easier to add spoiler tags etc (click the Format button above the one that looks like a backward P) Here's a cheatsheet We'll see how it goes. Feel free to comment and/or ask questions here.

When on the YouTube video you want to share, click on the 'Share This Video' Button/link (just under the video), then copy and paste that link into your post.

Reacting to Other People's Posts; Earning Badges

Badges: We can't think of a good reason why we award badges other than why not?! Badges appear in your profile, simply click your Avatar and click each badge for a description, they also can be seen by other members when they check you out!

Reactions: When you post other members can either comment or they can simply press on of the Reaction buttons below that post. In terms of reacting to other member's posts, well which 'reaction' you use really depends on the content and how you feel about it too, but we recommend keeping a couple of points in mind: negative voting will get the attention of the mods, so please use it wisely, especially when it comes to 'flagging' a post as spam or abuse.

Here's a list of the reaction buttons and how they work:

Points are awarded for positive contributions and subtracted for posting off-topic or abusive comments. Reactions have a numeric value: most Reactions will add 1 point or subtract 1 point to the memberâ€™s reputation score. Moderators have special Reactions that can add or subtract 5 points.

Award Badges: Users can receive badges for receiving positive Reactions such as â€˜Likeâ€™, â€˜Agreeâ€™ or â€˜Awesomeâ€™.

Bury bad comments: Comments that get negative Reactions can be collapsed and greyed out. The default threshold is -5.

Get Personal - Add a Signature

A signature is a way to personalise your posts, it is automatically added when you post a comment and everytime you change your signature it automatically adjust all previous comments to show the same signature.

You can edit yours by clicking on your profile picture and then on the right side click the drop down box and select 'Edit Profile' then click Signature Settings.

A lot of people will include their real name in their signature, perhaps a famous quote or a link to another website such as one where pictures of their collections is showing. Some people will even make up banners, usually these are dealers and some will link to their business website, that's fine as long as you are aware of our banner size restrictions, read more here

Last Read Comment

This forum 'remembers' the last comment that you read in any topic you were last in and when you click on the topic title it take you back to exactly the right spot on the page that you were last at, so no need to try and work your way back through the thread if your trying to catch up.

Private Conversations

Unlike other forum software that have a private message (PM) feature, we use the concept of private conversations.

Private conversations are conversations in the format of threaded email. You can easily follow the private conversation between yourself and another party or parties - yes you can have a private thread with multiple people, great for when you are planning to take over a forum - be assured your Private Conversation is private, mods and admins cannot see them.

SImple click the envelope icon (2nd one to the right of your avatar on the left side of the page. Remember to write in the user name (if it is a nickname), eg if there forum name is Fatso and their real name is Matt then type in Fatso. Our forum software will auto-suggest the username as you type.

Auto Time Zone

There is no need to Google â€˜UTCâ€™ to figure out when someone posted. Post times are adjusted to your local time zone. The example below shows how time auto adjusts on sign-on.

On posts more than a day old, the full date and time can be seen by hovering over the date.
