Avatar Theme Week

After a long discussion with my cohorts, we've decided to have an Avatar Theme Week starting on the 1st of June. So over the next few days we'd like some suggestions as to which theme aka animals, horror, sci fi, actor, whatever takes your fancy. Even a Mel theme would be funny.

Those who don't want to play along....stiff titties....we'll change your av for you.

Oh btw Charlie and Dave......we're having an Avatar Theme Week on the 1st of June.

The Christmas decorations are up

While you were sleeping the Christmas decorations went up, a new banner (couple of Christamassy additions/changes), a few Santa characters scattered around the place and yes, because Charlie loves it so much:

The World #1's Movie Posters Forum's: Second Annual "Xmas Movie Xryptic Xrossword" - because he so loved the first one, he insisted, nay demanded, we do another one this year! Right here

We've also added NOT one but two Jigsaws (TWO? I hear you ask - yes TWO!). It's the same movie poster, but one for the kids (and David who is hopeless at them), and a super duper hard one for the adults and yes, very hard because the the pieces also have to be rotated to fit into right place - the hard one is here (the kids one just under it)

Of course other changes such as adding an actual video to our Movie Clip of The Month and we still make it impossible for Rick to post images.

Admin will be dressing up as Santa soon, bring beer and cookies.

Just happened to notice we smashed through the 500 likes barrier this week, yep 501.

We do get quite a lot of interaction with people on there from outside this forum, sometimes the conversations are messaged questions asking about movie posters or restoration questions etc etc. All three admin can/will/do answer where possible specially if we can't drag them in here (some of you lot are scary). We sometimes get asked about the legitimacy of a poster, or perhaps the value of one or even if we are interested in buying - we must tell you about that one day.

Anyway, 501 likes, if you don't Facebook that is a milestone, and if you do and haven't liked us yet then shame on you! Click the Facebook link on the top menu.

I can't seem to find a thread for this although I assume there is one somewhere... Anyway here are my thoughts

First off well done to the forum owners for setting this new forum up quickly: David, Charlie and Matt (?)
Feedback/Suggestions: - I like the graphics design at the top on the screen. I reckon if it were half or 2/3 the height ie a bit smaller that would be better so less scrolling is needed on every (every) and every page.
I like the social media sharing functionality - I like the forum is off to a flying start mostly by the administrators.
The dark color scheme though I find hurts my eyes. To me that is close to a deal breaker for further visits. Not when I am on the site but when I then look back and forth at another normal light color websites. Don't know many big site have a dark scheme (thanks to God). Get help here -
The pagination is missing numbers and quoting comments loses bits due to the color scheme (are there 12 pages or 56 pages ;-) :

- Avatars are a bit small. I think bigger avatars makes some people think they are special, and all the hooks to get people here the better.

Want To Change Your Name?

I am sure most people will have noticed that we don't allow businesses make their username their business name (or similar), you may not have noticed that in fact a large proportion of people actually just use their Christian name as their username - we think it's far more friendly.

Whilst we absolutely respect anyone's preference to use a pseudonym there may be a few people who would now like to change their name here to their first name, but only Admins can do that. Drop us a note and let us know, simply click the little envelope icon at the top left next to your profile picture, click New Message - address it to Charlie, Matt and/or David and we'll change it for you.

Password Reset Issues

Forum Banner

Seems everyone is talking about banners these days so I didn't want ours to be left out. :P

I noticed that the old banner wasn't working too well on a tablet, one shouldn't have to scroll left/right due to banner width, so I whipped up a smaller slightly different one as you can see above. The old one is below and whilst I could make it smaller (in width) it would jam the left and right images together and look icky.

Anyway now the site fits on a tablet properly, which ever way you turn the tablet and yes our banner is clickable by the way (seems to be a talking point too) - our banner comes with a public service message...

Important Information :: Server Upgrade

We will be migrating the forum to a new server on May 20th at 11am (EST) - it is estimated there will be about 30 minutes of downtime. As we know the current server is barely alive. The new server will be better than it was before. Better, stronger, faster. Oh wait, thats the Six Million Dollar Man... For the luddites in our forum, we are installing new hamster wheels too. During the upgrade you are advised to remove all metal object from your body, wear loose fitting underwear and keep arms and legs away from the windows. Please feel free to make yourself a slushy, a Vegemite and potato chip sandwich (yum) and keep yourself otherwise occupied by talking to yourself, it's not like we take any notice of you in the forum anyway.... :D

I don't seem to be able to get a list of new responses in the forum since the last time I looked. The recent posts category seems to be in random order and not all new posts are flagged as new. The activity tab seems to show too much and also is not in order.

I would guess I am doing something wrong, but I don't see how to fix it.
