I'm no expert, but i have a To Catch a Thief LC that has the original dates but also a 1963 re-issue stamped on it. I consider it an original with a re-issue stamp but am likewise keen to hear Bruce's thoughts.

Hey everyone,
Just snagged this beautiful rolled 40x60 Robert McCall poster for 2001: A Space Odyssey at Heritage Auctions for only $450 including buyer’s premium. Total steal!
What’s interesting: Heritage originally listed it as a **1968 Original**, then changed the description to **MGM R-1971**.
On the white credit strip at the bottom you can see the printed NSS code **“68/103”** – it’s pretty faint to the naked eye, so I ran a quick Photoshop curves adjustment to make it pop. Right next to it is the red reissue stamp **“74 294”**.
After digging around, here’s what I found:
The code 68/103 matches every confirmed first-run 1968 McCall printing (including other formats). The “74 294” stamp is a standard NSS reissue mark used for the 1974 re-release. So it looks like genuine 1968 original paper that was simply reused in 1974 – a true “reused original.”
Now I’m curious what the community thinks:
Does this count as a **1968 Original with reissue stamp** in your book, or is it still just an R-1971? Has anyone seen similar cases with other titles?
Would love your opinions and especially photos of comparable copies!

Monster & Spacemen raid
Here are my trophies from yesterday’s raid at the Heritage Auction “Monster & Spacemen.” But okay, that’s enough for now — I’m totally stuffed! Now I’ve got to figure out how to properly archive all this stuff the right way.

The new guy from Hamburg
Hello Community! Charlie was kind enough to send me an invitation after I asked. And here I am. Totally nuts.I’m 61 years old, but I can still easily pass for 60. I’m now the Hamburg branch.
It all started for me about two years ago with the stock market. I was — and still am — pretty successful there because I got in at exactly the right time. But these are very volatile stocks that go up and down, up again, and sometimes way, way down. :-)
So I started thinking about how to keep my money safe. Old movies — whether film noir or B-movies — have always been my thing. But I never thought about the original posters. In Germany that’s not nearly as big a deal as it is with you folks in the USA. After doing my research, though, investing in really striking wall posters didn’t seem like the worst idea. The market is growing 5 to 15–20 % a year, and even here in Germany people are starting to wake up to it.
As usual, when something grabs me I read like a maniac and spent a ton of money on cool books and art volumes — Harryhausen, Reynold Brown, Learn About Movie Posters, etc.
At first I bought retail, but I quickly realized most of that stuff is borderline at best. What mattered to me was getting real originals and not getting ripped off.
Of course I made mistakes. Obviously. But not too many. In the picture you can see my latest big score from the Heritage Auction — the “Yakob Zentner Collection.” Ballpark figure: I bought every third poster.
Like I said — I’m completely insane.
Anyway, yesterday I was bidding hard again at the Spaceman & Monster auction (though I had already scaled it back — I really went overboard before). But they’re all just so damn beautiful!
What eats up a lot of my time (and a lot more money) is proper archival storage. If you look at every single purchase separately (and that includes art, comics, and pulp too), I’ve put together a collection that would take most people decades to build — and I did it in just a few months. I track everything in the iCollect Everything app and it currently says 530 items. Wow. I really hope my wife doesn’t ask what it all cost… :-)
And what can I say? Stock prices have dropped, poster prices are going up (well, not all of them). :-) But old movie posters pay a monthly dividend: every single time you look at them.
I’m really glad to be here and I’m looking forward to lively, friendly conversation.

What Happened To The Australian Daybills?
On researching Australia daybills over a very long period of time something that stands out to me is the number of Australian daybills that images have not surfaced for. One can understand daybills printed up to 1949 being scare allowing for World War 11 paper shortages and other factors. I was once told by a person who had worked for a major film distributor that loads of unused Australian daybills, one sheets and other film paper were taken to the dump and disposed of reguarly.Personally about twenty five years ago I approached a second hand shop and was told by the owner she had only a few months before also dumped a lot of film posters as she thought they were of no commercial value.
I have been looking into Blake Films 1950 & 1960 releases and Regent Films 1960 releases in particular and am amazed at how small the number of daybill titles printed for them have surfaced to date. Some of the missing titles include Chimes At Midnight, The Umbrellas Of Cherboug, Jack The Ripper, Only The Valiant ( re-release ). I am wondering in being small independent companies their print runs were less than the majors knowing bookings would be a lot less that the major distributors would generally receive. It is often said a lot of posters are hoarded by collectors but in the case of Blake and Regent there titles are not extremely collectible due to lesser known titles with duotone and less attractive artwork.

I began collecting movie poster art in the 1970s after seeing the one sheet for Dial M for Murder in the window (not the Rear Window) of Bob Coleman's Hollywood Poster Exchange. Luckily I decided to specialize in someone with a long career who attracted so many famous actors and actresses to appear in his movies: Alfred Hitchcock. By the time I liquidated 95+% of my collection at a series of auctions I had over 180 posters and over 600 lobby cards, all Hitch. What made me a bit different is that I really enjoyed the art of non-USA Hitch promotional art. Almost no one was collecting Belgian, Argentinian, etc. posters in those days (although the French were fierce collectors of French Hitch posters.) While I liked Hitch, what attracted me was the promotional art more than Hitch as director. I kept about ten Hitch posters, mostly because I forgot I had some frames under the bed in the guest room. I am slowly dipping my toe in the water, but on a budget. Anything I may post on this site is either currently owned by me or was owned previously owned by me.

Unfortunately with signatures the real answer and sarcastic answer is what ever someone will pay. Unless you are George Lucas or Jack Nicholson it is coming from them for charity or something or you have some undeniable proof (which is always deniable) that they were actually signed by these actors - all your really did what put sharpie on a really nice poster. My initial reaction is that they would be worth much less.
Get a nice reproduction signed instead.

1950s Day bill poster
I'm new to the world of the history of vintage posters. Being a graphic designer I have always admired how amazing they are. I received these from a friend and was hoping to get some more info on them. I have done a little research on them but have had trouble locating two of them Operation pacific and Masterson of Kansas. Masterson is my favourite, the red, the image and typography is amazing. Pity a mouse has got to it. If anyone can shed some light that would be amazing.
