Best Of

Sadly Solo (which I saw for the 2nd time last night) was punished by the fans for the shambles that Disney has made of the two sequels.

I frequent a fair few Star Wars forums/FB groups and some pretty well organised mass boycotting took place, along with blanket trolling/poor reviews from those that haven't even seen it. 

Its a shame as the two 'stories' (Rogue and Solo) were both bloody good and by far superior to any of the prequels or sequels. 

It's not just the bizarre path that the sequels took that upset the die hard fans, but also the shambles of merchandising (or lack of it) and when it finally appeared on shelves the fans had already forgotten the movie, unlike the original trilogy where you couldn't move for mountains of Kenner carded goodness lining the isles of every toystore.

Disney had a tried and tested formula (even a guide of waiting 3 years between movie releases) to work with and a mass of expended universe novels to pull material from. Sadly they went with an overly PC Disney/Marvel movie approach which was never going to end well with millions of fans who've had a massive 'buy in' to this franchise for 40 years.

Hostiles ( 2017 ) is a very violent, but very well told tale of the early American period the film depicts and I highly recommend it. Christian Bale has never been better, Rosamund Pike, who I didn't know before this is excellent, as is of course Wes Studi, whose performance as Magua in The Last Of The Mohicans blew me away when I first saw it years ago. My only very minor criticism is that at times some of the dialogue spoken by a few of the characters is a little hard to understand as to what exactly they are saying. The copy that I viewed was from the U.S.A. as the film doesn't appear to be having a theatrical release, at least at this time, in Australia. I just had to share these poster images with you, particularly the first and the third ones that are, for modern posters, through my eyes at least are impressive. The poster image in between these two show three excellent reviews for the film, although the bottom one is hard to read in this image. It says '' Pike and Bale gave outstanding performances  - among the best this year''.
